Thanks everyone. They both look the same from the front. Not a mirror of each other.
I will check it out this weekend and see how I go.
It could be aimed too high potentially which means the pattern is too high up to register on the machine or it could be a dud headlight on the right hand side. I wil also replace the bulb in the off chance its no good.
At the registry the guys used a box thing to look for the pattern. Can i replicate this at home? I can adjust the height/aim on the garage door but I cant see the pattern part they are looking for even in the side they said was fine.
If the headlight is not defective then, yes, you should be able to measure using the garage door.
I was just fitting a pair of spots and thought of your issue as I was fiddling. Both headlights should have the wedge on the same side..... that being the drivers side... so, the inside (towards car centreline) for the pass side light and the outside (away from car c/l for the drivers side light....
Park the car a few feet from the garage door with the centreline as much as possible.. perpendicular to the door. Measure the height of the centre of the lights and the distance from the centreline... Plot these on the door. Turn on high beam and brightest par of the projected light should be petty much on these marks.
Obviously check the bulbs are correctly mounted the lights and go for a retest. (Perhaps print and take a copy of Rule 106/9). If you fail, ask for a detailed reason.... Referr them to your copy of the regs and seek specific guidance as to the reason for failure
