Finally got back onto the 1293 build last night...for ROO the Aussie Window Van.

Renovated 2 levels of the house this year, had cousin & hubby from Brissy over for holiday, had family holiday with son, wife & grand daughters, was responsible for our big 74th community celebration...3 weeks before Mini Meet West (western Canada & USA) which I had been helping with since last year.

No more excuses...

Yesterday we took status: both blocks crack tested, cleaned, mains align honed, crank/main journal clearance addressed (mine solved by polishing the main journals on the new A+ crank), decks milled as needed (mine the least amount possible, the other need material removed to bring new Rover std pistons up the bores), my head rebuilt with hardened exhaust seats with new guides/new valves/springs...so

Last night opened up/smoother flow for oil into filter and into/out of pump. After thorough wash, rodding etc. and dry, oil gallery plugs/freeze plugs installed, then cam bearings in both blocks.

Tonight will install crank, rods, pistons, cams and check cc of piston dishes and combustion chambers...mine very close to 10:1 now. My block had been built years ago as a race engine (but never actually ran) so 20 over Cooper S 19320 pistons (oil drain back via holes not slots) were only 13 thou down the bore. Head likely to get the least amount of material removed to clean up.

The other 1275 block was a Rover SPI unit that went to Japan and new std. Rover pistons were more than 20 thou down the bore.

This morning was like the good the bad and the ugly.
The Good - mini started first time as always, started it up and drove it 4km down the road to the trimming shop to have the seats trimmed, should get it back within a couple of weeks so will be all new for xmas.
The bad - It was a little early for the misses to get all the kids in the car and follow me so decided to run the 4km home
The Ugly - My heaving sweating form when I got back home !!

Yesterday I decided to cut the rust out of the boot floor - spare wheel area - and fabricate a new piece. I might weld it in today.

I didn't want to buy a new floor as I had spare metal laying about and it didn't warrant it.

I shaped the metal to keep the wheel inset. The radius I used was 195mm. The circle still looks like a circle. [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Also Re-Adjusted the minivation bonnet hinges, the back was being pushed up a little, realised I was not all the way down in the slots, will see how we go.

Put a boot over the freshly packed cv
Re installed shaft
Replaced tie rod end boot
Put it all back together.
Swapped wheels from other rolling shell onto the new mini. Realised the rears don't fit without spacer drums.
Clay bar, Polish, wax roof to see how it turned out.

Productive day :)

Picked the car up from the trim shop and the new seats look quality. Car is a bit dusty so will give a shine up at the weekend and take some pics. Now looking forward to a summer of driving and enjoying the car.
