Do they make them and is it worth fitting one to a fast road 1360?

The jury is out on whether these things add any power- dyno results are inconclusive.
If poorly designed they can hold oil from getting back down to the pump pickup.
But it's generally agreed they are worth having on a race car- as they help keep the broken motor bits out of the gearbox if you lunch it.

Windaghe trays work ina Mini. Fact. Seen to give around a 4BHP difference on rolling road tests. Because theMini gears rotate to form a vertical deluge of oil from the gearbox directly on to the crankshaft/rod rotating assembly, drag, and therefore bhp loss is inevitable. As for preventing oil getting back to teh sump - nonesense. It RETAINS oil in the sump to better feed the pick up. So much so that in race engines you only need to run oil up to just below the minimum mark on the dipstick. There is so much oil thrown around by the crankshaft assembly that upper lubrication is not affected when using a decent quality oil.

Looking at the pictures it looks like it would be very easy to make one. What material would be best? I'd assume mild steel would be good but alloy would be better (lighter) so what thickness would be suited if I used alloy, would 0.6mm be to soft and flex from the heat and spray of the oil?
Any opinions?

There was an American web site that had a pattern for one. I also think it maybe the same guy
that discovered that the Pulsar dizzy could be fitted. He may also been the same guy that came up
with the 123 Electronic Dizzy.
I went looking for his web site but with no luck, maybe someone else might find it.

I was reading an English Mag in the 90's and an article by our champ DV on windage trays and scraper blades was in it. I remember taking it out of the mag and putting away for safe keeping (dont know where though). It was on SBC's and he was getting big numbers of HP gains. What I remember from the article was the windage tray and scraper blade was about removing the oil cloud from the rotating mass. Some stupid amount of oil weight was spinning around with the crank and the scraper blade was removing the oil and the windage tray covered in directional mesh was also capturing oil as if flew past.

If its reducing the rotating mass then wouldnt it be more like lighteneing stuff?
Not so much giving you more HP but allowing the engine to rev up quicker.
