The Later Leyland minis also had a spacer plate under the clutch master cyl, which in-turn , lowers the starting height of the clutch pedal,,, we take the spacer plate out & even have to bend the arm sometimes too

it`s best to try to get as much clutch pedal travel as you can, & fit a 3/4" clutch master cyl as well

:-)

that`s just what we do,,, other people may have other methods

Thanks all for the info,

Well it must be the design of the brake m/cylinder that brings the pedal higher than the clutch on the later minis.
At least I feel more confident now when I go to Karkraft to get my parts.

I think I will leave the clutch m/cylnder as is as ther eis nothing wrong with it.

Yes good idea leave it as is .Update on the 77 998 LS well it looks like I need to go to specsavers as I just went out to the garage and looked at the pedals and it is higher as well ,just not quite as high as the 1275 LS. So yes must be all later cars perhaps its the tandem master cylinder cars .

I got all the bits i needed from Karkraft yesterday, only problem is the GMC227 master cylinder I bought has a 1 off 12mm outlet on it and the adapter pipe kit they had did not suit my car(the pipe was too short).

Does any one know where I can buy a 12mm male to a 10mm female brake adapter, this way I can use my original brake line.

I think you would have a fitting (or even the line) made up quickest at a brake shop. They will swage the fitting up pretty quick, even with the original line if you must. You only give up 3 mm when you take the old flare off.

Minisport SA advertise the kit http://minisport.com.au/dual-circuit-ma ... r-cylinder

But the end fittings are a couple of dollars each, and the pipe is cheap too. Probably save you a few dollars to have it made up.

Hi Mick,

I saw those lines at Karkraft yesterday but the are too short compared to my existing pipes.so I did not get them.

I am now thinking that the top m/cylinder connection thread on the new one might be different than the old one, seeming that the new cylinder has metric threads,
I will check it tonight.
I may have to get new pipes made up to suit.

The new GMC227 master cylinder has 1x12mm and I x10mm fittings
also has a stepped bore , also the top and bottom outlets are swapped around , so you can not just put the 12mm fitting on the top pipe

You are right Mark,

I just went and had a look at my existing set up and the front brakes were connected to lower connection on M/cylinder,
(with the new M/cylinder the front brake connection is at the top)

It appears I need the pipe kit (BAU5654) that runs from the M/cyl to the press reducing valve. This will also reverse
the connections on M/cyl.
When Karkraft showed me this kit it looked like the pipes were too short, but obviously there not.

regards Felix

I ended up getting the brake lines for the master cylinder from John at Mini Kingdom today and they fitted perfectly,Thanks John.

All I need to do is bleed the brakes on the weekend,I bled the master cylinder before fitting it so hopefully all will be OK.
