Hi All,

Yes been missing in action and not because I have been working on the Mini. Raising kids and keep the wife happy mainly (oh and the new addition due in Feb).

Anyway, thought you might like the results of the new tune. Basically I hadn't been driving Minstar because it ran so rich even after the great work by Pulse in Sydney, that it was basically undriveable (made me high as a kite and then very ill). Anyway mates said good things about Ultimate Tunes, so I dropped down there today expecting a large hit to the pocket and probably no difference.

How wrong was I, they cleaned up the fuel map, so it now idles and runs very crisply but also the end result, 22 extra Kw (146 to 168) and whats more at approximately 2 psi less than before (16 psi down to 14 psi).

So there you go 225 Bhp atw and just over 300Nm. No obviously everyone has to be on the same dyno yadda yadda and I agree, but lets face it when other people have broken 200hp I didn't argue as that the figure the dyno spat out so this time around I am going to take it...

What is most pleasing is that technically I did not add anything it was simply that the fueling was so rich it was sapping power. Wonder what it does on 16?

Dyno sheet attached.

Cheers

Matt that is incredible. Go easy on it though, the general consensus is that factory things start to break at over 200hp.

Nice work there.

I am keen to get up to around 200 myself. Any idea what your's does down the quarter?

I wish I was up to the enjoying the power and looking for more bit.
Still the building bit is fun too. Just takes ages...

Cheers guys, yeah thanks for that and JC definitely. I am still intrigued by the reduction in boost, which is a good thing as 14.5 sounds a lot less harsh engine wise that 16 (or 18 which I thought I would have to run to get over 200). But while I flog it consistently I don't really do many super harsh launches. As for quarter, yeah I will have to go. I was going to go with (forgot name) but had problems at work and had to pull out. Plus for people travelling to WSID we need a trailer in case something goes wrong. But I think March next year is looking good. When's the next Ausmini Dyno Day?

Cheers

Matt

Hell yes Matt that is nothing short of spectacular - congratulations!!!

Once a pioneer, always a pioneer!

That fuel map must have been way out for such a huge increase on lower boost - go figure!

well,,, that`s certainly an impressive figure, well done!!!

& for the sake of it,,, it`s always amazed me how soo many people don`t realise how just a tad lean just absolutely kills performance, (& probably the engine too) but you can be quite a bit rich & it barely notices it,,, add even more fuel tho & yes it dies in the go-go deptjust as bad as being too lean

well done anyways fella... i could only wish i could get that sort of grunt from out "Roady" turbo twinky

How driveable is it actually when you give it a heap and step on it?
My Datto ute is pushin 240hp at the rears which is like 180kw and it is alot of fun, driveable though cos it's rear wheel drive... I can't wait to get my van pushin these big numbers!

Thanks guys. Yeah, it must have been rich but as I said I was not driving it because the petrol reek was so bad, my skin used to itch really badly thats how bad it was so I think it must have been pretty rich! When I started it up I used to get unburnt petrol sprayed on the ground.

While there is still a little bit there it ain't half as bad as it used to be. Plus the power delivery is so much crisper. And the blow off does a whoosh noise whereas previously it did I kind of short bark. And yes there is a noticeable change in acceleration. I seriously need to get some 13x7 onto it.

Also I know some probably won't believe this but I was not actually looking to get more horsepower simply to get it less rich. But of course I will take it :D :D . Andy and Matt R mate I didn't do anything particularly amazing to get this figure like most things you get the fundamentals right and the rest should come. i.e. decent headers, exhuast, well matched turbo, decent FMIC, etc etc.

Cheers

Are you running a KKR230?
Im trying to decide what turbo to run on mine when its done, just dont want to much lag but still want more power than a ct9.

Thanks, i figured it must be that as there was nothing that came up when i searched kkr230.
From the feedback ive seen they look to be around the best to be used. Esp being brand new not off a liberty.

Blue Deluxe, yep KKR280, I put Andy onto them because they are pretty cheap when compared to the Garret etc etc so good value. Some people made a few comments about them packing up but I think this was a case of I had a mate who's brother's wife had one that went bang. Mine has been on for more than 3 years and for the last twelve months was putting out 16psi day in day out. You get them from Otomoto.

And as you say brand new so you know what your getting...Unlike some turbos this seems to be perfectly sized as I get full boost by around 32-3400 which means that your not constantly tickling boost while cruising the highway at 100 but simply plant the foot and your past the semi in a flash. Also just bought myself a set of Startrax 13x7s Andrew I gather I have to cut the guards to get these in?

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

I am not 100% sure with the Startrax - what offset are they running?

If they are the same offset as the Superheavies (-42mm) then yes, you will definitely need to cut the guards. My guess would be yes, some trimming would have to be done.

Also can I just say a big thanks to Matt, for putting me onto the KKR280 - listen to him when he says that they are the perfect size for this engine! The man does his research people!!!
