I used the Mini speedo with a custom cable made up using starlet gbox end and mini speedo end and got the speedo recalibrated. By memory it was around $160-180.

My odo is slightly out, but I'm not too concerned about that. I could have gone the little gearbox as Mearcat said, but they are anywhere from 150 to 300, then I'd still need to have the cable made too.

Mind you I didn't have a starlet gauge cluster to play with. :?

my whole operation cost me approx $70.. I can change it to suit any wheel combo I like :P

Alternatively... install a bicycle computer!.. :D

What instrument cluster did you use? From what car?

Yeah. I like the fact that my car looks like an ordinary mini until I open the bonnet, but the way I did it definitely has limitations. I bet your dash is easier to read and the lighting and circuitry are more reliable too. There are many ways to do it. 8)

Hi guys,

its been a while since an update..

Been drilling out non critical bits and pieces to reduce some weight.. including the back seats! :D

I made a new log manifold for the car!

I've installed the SAFC and just when I upped the boost to 12psi, the clutch started slipping! :evil:


I am after a new clutch and want to do it myself..

Can you guys please give me some guidance as to what brand etc I should look for?

-max HP less than 200fwhp
- pedal effort should remain the same

Did a quick bit of research, and theyre high power clutches. The downside is a really heavy clutch to put a lot of power through it. Thinking more closely i dont think that would work as that much power would probs shear the driveshafts.

But dont quote me, im still a rookie on clutches.

I wouldn't get an exedy Heavy Duty they are only 30% uprated.

An exedy cusioned button would the the best choice maybe, i've used a custom cushioned button on Dan's car and it's probably the best.

I have the strongest clutch, 4puk ceramic button (most are ceramic now) and it's great on the track but PITA on the road. You do get used to it but i would prefer a cushioned button on the road, but on the track i prefer the button. They are on off and very very harsh. eg. My wheels spin before the car moves but just engaging the clutch.

Think of the clutch as a fuse of sorts, if you are slipping with your current clutch a stronger clutch will push this force out through the gearbox, diff, shafts, cv's etc. Which is why i broke a couple of shafts.

I've done a few thousand km's now on the new shafts with no problems. Will be taking it to wakefield in oct so will see how it holds out.

How were the new shafts compared to the old shafts? Were they a different design or a different material?

I had an Exedy cushioned button clutch on my 305rwhp R33 Skyline and it drove beautifully on the road with a very light pedal. I would definitely recommend it.

4130 was used and the shaft diameter was made smaller than the root or the spline allowing it to flex instead of shear.
