K & N are OK if you have the room. Otherwise, I like Unifilter socks, or Ramflo with a `Finer Filter' element in it (can't buy these elements now but I've got a couple..)

Whatever... don't run a road car with no filtration- it'll wear out before its time!

do any of these filters specify their ashrae rating (excuse spelling) which is a standardised filtration test on which all filtration is based on, including the australian standards rating. what you find is the better a filter filters, the more resistance it has to airflow. so it helps to have a bigger surface areaAre those finer filter tingos you mentioned for the inside of the filter?? and can you post a pic of it?? if you can, and can supply some vital measurements i can probably design and make a high eficiency filter no probs,, i make filters for surgical units and bio labs among other types of filters.

I dont have a boxed Piper Cross or K&N with me but do have a RamFlo 400 for a Dellorto 40/45/48 with no ratings on it and I can not say I have seen any before :?
Can you explain what you make your Surgical Units outof, Could be interesting..Also can you clean them and...re-oil them :?:

actually most surgical units and bio tech labs use heppa filters which would be overkill in a car.. i dont suppose microbes are a hassle for a carbs and the petrol probably stuffs them anyway.. but we use some amazingly efficient filter medias for a variety of aplications that may well suit different motoring uses. If the doc can post a pic of the fine filter more than likely we would have something as good if not better.

I have to Clean out Morris filter tomorrow so I'll take a pic for you of the Piper and cross, and the Ram flow....I thinking what you use would be similar to the mask you get at hardwares...but with a little more work involved....
I'm not being smart or anything , just similar looking. Guessing

`Finer filter' is just a flat oval foam pad that replaces the stock moulded Ramflo foam. It is a bit more open so less restriction. Relies on being wetted with Finer Filter oil for filtration.
It works- you should see the crap I wring out of it when I wash it every 5000 miles or so.
You wash it with turps or detergent, then dry it and re-oil.

Finer Filter got bought out by Unifilter a few years back. If anyone is interested in these pads, contact Unifilter- I'm sure they would cut you some specials. It's only flat foam. 8)

Finer Filter oil is now NLA too- the Unifilter oil is much the same.
