Im really not familiar with the aussie process so i thought id ask a few questions.

As far as i can see thee are national guidelines for the modification of cars, are these nationwide or does each state have its own set?

When considering a 4efte conversion ( in wa) what would be the points an engineer / the government would look at?

Would a car built in qld be legal in wa?

Do i have to submit a pre request for performing such work?

Does anyone know if rollcages are legal in W.A.?

How easy is it to get a car certified and registered and how much does it cost?

Why are clouds so fluffy?

do body modifications such as extended arches and flip fronts have to be declared?

What are people paying insurance wise for cars with the 4efte conversion?

Has anyone transported a car from qld to wa? how much and how long?

Why does it burn when i pee?

with minis does putting larger wheels on it require a certificate, cos people are constantly telling me that 19' on my magna ( thats right i drive a mitsusexy shagna) is illegalish cos they are more than 2 inches bigger than stock?

Sorry for all the questions?

that was another question, no really im sorry , i just nailed like 200g of m&m's and a pint of cordial...im high as a kite

any help would be greatly appericiated

Rosco

I'll have a bash at your 20 questions:

As far as i can see thee are national guidelines for the modification of cars, are these nationwide or does each state have its own set?
- Yes, there is the NCOP, but each state has it's own interpretations on certain points & can throw in extra rules.

When considering a 4efte conversion ( in wa) what would be the points an engineer / the government would look at?
- Safety and emissions

Would a car built in qld be legal in wa?
- No. You need WA approval & sign off from an engineer recognised in WA

Do i have to submit a pre request for performing such work?
- Yes, that you can get it approved before you start

Does anyone know if rollcages are legal in W.A.?
- Yes, but not door bars

How easy is it to get a car certified and registered and how much does it cost?
- Depends on the level of modifications I'm budgeting $2,000 for a CBU car.

Why are clouds so fluffy?
- They are made of marshmello

do body modifications such as extended arches and flip fronts have to be declared?
- Extended arches no, but flip front yes

What are people paying insurance wise for cars with the 4efte conversion?
- ?

Has anyone transported a car from qld to wa? how much and how long?
- ?

Why does it burn when i pee?
- Have you been picking chillis?

with minis does putting larger wheels on it require a certificate, cos people are constantly telling me that 19' on my magna ( thats right i drive a mitsusexy shagna) is illegalish cos they are more than 2 inches bigger than stock?
- No. If you fit larger diameter rims to any car you must fit lower profile tyres as you cannot exceed the original rolling diameter

As I understand it, if the car has a tyre placard specifying the OEM wheel/tyre combinations, then legally you can't go more than +2" in wheel diameter (and even then you have to retain the same overall diameter).

Oz Mini's never had a tyre placard, so I think this is the reason 13" wheels are possible.

You want to look here: http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1449.asp for the answers for most of your questions regarding WA regs. Check out the queensland transport autority version of regs (DOTARS?) and see if there are any differences.

You need a pre approval for WA mods. You might get away with it if you start in qld then move, but apply when you get to WA. If you rego the finished conversion in qld, then you will need to get the car inspected by engineer for WA rego. Shouldn't be hard or too expensive.

I was told that as long as you do all workmanship (welding) to high standard, build (basically) to the DPI regs, and fill out all paperwork correctly you will be OK for Eng approval.

I'm paying in the region of $550 per year limited useage (not daily driver) through Shannons with a $15000 insured value.

Fibreglass parts incl. flip fronts change the way the car absorbs impacts, this is why they don't like them.

Car transport: 1200-1500 from Melbourne to Kalgoorlie. Probably around similar amount for Brisbane to Perth I'd say.

13" or 12" wheels are pretty easy to get approved on minis because the late model cars got them in the UK. They will look at clearance, and the extra load on wheel bearings from extra width mainly.

Clouds... mmmm.... can't remember. something to do with cold air reaching dew point.
Burning when you pee??!! have you been putting it where it doesn't belong? :?

PM me if you want more specific details. I have just had my 4efte conversion engineered and registered in WA about a week ago.

Oh and check your inbox, i already pm'ed you about this kinda stuff just really need to get it sorted quick sharpish.

any other pointers would be geatly appreciated, hae car is essentially built in qld but not finished or registered so....

I was quoted ~$750/yr for a Mini w/ 4EFTE conversion from Shannons Insurance (as a daily driver - as opposed to James whose isn't) and insured for $18K but I'm not sure how much that has to do with my age (34). I thought it was reasonable premium considering that's what I pay for my highly modified R33 Skyline which is the same value.

I'm 27. The mini has been insured with them since 2003. 1 claim made in that time. No traffic infringements in the past 5 years. (yet)
