The inlet manifold needs some modification, it's got insanely long runners.

Length wise no prob ~870mm give or take. Once I modify the inlet manfold it shouldn't be much if any wider than a 4EFTE 8) And a lot less junk to cram in :D

Just remember that most of the development of these NA 16V / 20V screamers is based around the intake - especially the runner shape / length / diameter (also intake into head and cams, but they are all closely related.). The reason they make so much power is that they can flow lots of air at high rpm.

Be careful modifying the intake, because you will likely lose top end power, especially shortening the runners. You may increase torque, or at least bring the peak torque down the rev range a bit.

You may get lucky however..... :?

Good to see someone doing something different though. - Good luck they're a great engine from all accounts! 8)

Well the engine's ready to be lifted out, just have to undo the mounts and pop! Well that's the plan...

I've removed and tagged the interior loom and the engine loom.

And I'm frickin annoyed... this damn rain! Fairly sunny yesterday so I decided to clear the rocker cover. 3 coats... went inside to let it dry and.. RAIN!!!  I'm going to paint strip it and just paint it in the booth with the car.. at least I know sort-of what it will come up like, I'll post the pre-rain pics :)

Pinky! -- Cheers :) It's going to be a cream colour.. similar to 'Sugar Cane' but a bit darker/deeper. Very similar to minimetoy's.

'77 clubby van -- Yep, well aware :) Although I think it's the other way round -- long runners better low down, short better up top  for power that is.. I'll actually lose a bit of torque by shortening the runners.

I have a cross-section pic somewhere that shows the manifold -- The runners contract as they come from the plenum to the head to increase air speed. I'm hoping I don't have to take that much out, so It shouldn't worry.

I remember on my 20v it had quad throttles ( very short manifold ) then the runners came off the throttles and twisted down ~6 inches..

Seeing as I'm going to have to modify the inlet anyway, quads are quickly becoming an option. I'm just weighing up the costs of fabrication then engine management. I just need to get the thing in there first!

This is how the rocker cover turned out..

...You can see some of the rain shiz and a few specks of crap -- not happy Jan  I'm not going to waste anymore time on it, I'll spray it in the booth. That said, I'm still pretty psyched about the colour and finish; it's like glass!

Image

The interior loom all labeled and ready to strip away the bits I don't need.. and the computer.

More pics to come...

That looks hot.... I love 2 pack!!

Are you going to knock back the paint to the alloy on top of the writing to give contrast? I love that look.

Yeah a big shout-out goes to my Dad 8) I'd do it myself.. but this car has to be perfect and when that's the case.. he's the man :D

You have no idea the dilemma I was in trying to decide whether or not to linish the letters off.. I'm still undecided...

I decided it's going to have a GReddy cap and chrome cam gears, chrome bolts to hold the cover on, silver head and chrome extractors...
So I don't know whether the linished letters would be too much...

Opinions?

Hey if you're going bling you might as well go all bling!! 8)

Seriously, you want the important bits (DOHC 16 Valve) to not be over shadowed by the oil cap and cam gears!!!

Yeah seeing as I'm doing it over I'll sand them back and see how it comes up... If I like it, it stays :)

Engine's almost out it just got too dark too soon... I didn't get a chance for pics.

Here's that cross-section pic for anyone that's interested ---

I'll have to go check out Minimetoy's then

That blue would look hot on an entire Mini too I reckon :D

Ok update time... and sorry for the pics again, I broke my camera!

Engine out ---
Image

Which left me with this ---
Image

I took off all the unnecessary bits ---
Image

And all the loom... yay :?
Image

That's all I got done today, but I'm happy :) I'm in the middle of trying to find out what type my diff is -- It looks suspiciously like an LSD

Oh and Tricky -- The engine measures 885 mm from crank pulley to the end of the gearbox 8)

I've also been looking into my ITB manifold idea and I want to fab up something like this ---

Image

The runners have a nice incline on them which will keep them far away from the bulkhead 8) I've also got a really nice idea for an airbox...
