how's this for an idea

how about some sort of impeller fan that is in the exhaust pipe, and the exhaust gases make it spin around really fast, that fan is connected with a shaft to another fan type thing that sucks air in and pushes it into the engine.... I reckon that could work

I guess the same sort of thing could work if you drove the second fan from the fan belt as well, but maybe not an actual fan because it mightn't spin fast enough, but maybe a pair of rotating drum things with interconnecting ribs that forces air between them and out into the engine

just an idea

Vizard tried a similar idea and found there was a torque benefit in a long intake pipe with a K & N filter down behind the grille. See "Tuning BL's A Series Engine" for details. But Vizard wasn't intending to "ram in" air, just suck in cooler air.

yes, this rearly works. but what you gain at the lower revs is what you lose at the higher revs. the idea is to "ram in" the air, but it only works within a narrow rev band. to make it perfect you need long intake pipes for low revs and short pipes for high revs

I have seen them, they are called rotary mufflers.

Some rotaries are noisy so they put 2 of these mufflers on. It seems to help their performance too.

BING!!!

maybe you're on to something there, how about pulling apart a real hair dryer and putting it into the air filter housing inlet....

dude, we're gonna make a fortune

Any one remember "Turbozet"?

It was an "Electronic Supercharger" that sold for about 300 dollars.
It claimed to increase horsepower by 5 percent or so and increase economy.

It was two 5 dollar plastic PC cooling fans glued together. Often one fan was fitted bacxkwards to the other as well.

So many suckers, so few turbozets...

Someone worked out that to produce the amount of air needed to make any sort of difference, the electric air pump motor would need to be about the size of a pool pump and draw about 100 amps at 12 volts!

There's a sucker born every minute, that's probably faster than Turbozet production...

When I was into VW's many years ago someone published a spoof advert in the April issue of the club newsletter for the "Stylus 2000 Supercharger" for $999. He put an old 240V hairdryer on top of a 1200cc beetle carby with 8-10 ignition coils connected to it, supposedly to generate enough volts to power the hairdryer. He had fake dyno sheets showing it upped the power to 240hp. It all looked very convincing and gave us all a chuckle. The contact number was apparently a local brothel. I wonder how many people saw the article and called the number. :)

What makes you think that the air coming into the carby can be improved? 8)

Happens EVERY trip I make to Sydney from Canberra in Winter!!!!

Always, without fail - and ALWAYS!!!! after I have passed the second exit to Goulburn. Just stop, have a smoke, contemplate pissing on the DHLA, refrain reminding myself of the smell, wait another 5 mins and get in and drive...could be the Goulburn gremlins giving me gypp!!

Hooroo

I get carby ice on the Federal Hwy at Lake George and on the Northern Road between Bringelly and Penrith. But only if the conditions are right.

Only time I ever got it was in the hills above Queenstown, Tasmania- in May last year.
It's a weird feeling- you back off the throttle and it keeps going...
Just what you need (NOT!) when there's a 1 in 10 downhill right ahead... :!:
