Simon,

The engine pics and the rwd chain drive setup are from different cars.

The yellow ZX9R has front mount (north-south) mounted engine with what I believe to be RWD by standard conventional IRS system and propshaft.

The white car in the last pic is rear mount (east-west), RWD via chain as is the standard with Z-cars and the like.

Cheers,
Tricky

So is the RWD car a locked diff (or no diff)?

In fact the same question still applies for the FWD car....

Yes, the chain driven RWD car (white one) is essentially locked. That is either an early Z cars kit or a holeshoot racing kit (or a home job).

The other front mounted car (yellow) is the one that would use some donor diff. This would be my preferred option, bit heavier though. Don't know if anybody has looked at bike motors in great detail but the 'output' shaft (where the cog is) is quite high on the motor/gbox set up. I would suggest that in the yellow car the output shaft to tail shaft 'link' would be ABOVE the steering rack. If not, great.

Ah yes,

ZX12R engine, solid small diameter prop shaft, and Ford Sierra rear end - a popular combination in the UK.

JC - the propshaft will clear the rack no worries.

Simon - sorry!! Please get some sleep.

Cheers,
Tricky

lol....I was at that- Gaydon Mini Festival, and took about 10mins DVD of this...awesome wee car.........the pics dont do it justice, everywhere you looked it was tweaked or modded and the workmanship was awesome.....
As seen from the pics tho, it p**ed it down-ruined the day, but were some very cool minis there - Heritage Motor Centre was well worth the look too!

I posed the question to my engineer about the feasability of going RWD with a mini like the above yellow one in th UK, this was his response....

Quote:
The NSW regulations mean that if you convert to RWD we need to asses the car as an individually constructed vehicle against all of the 2007 regulations.

If money really wasn't an object this could be done. In the real world I suggest you stick to FWD!
