I've been reading this thread for months & no one has meantioned final drive
ratios, or RPM vs MPH
Think about this
Std Cooper 'S' 3.44 diff 10" wheels @ 6500 = 107Mph in 4th
Mk1 or mk2/3 GTI 4.105 diff 10" wheels @ 6500 = 118Mph in 5th
Barina Mk2/3 3.523 diff 10" wheels @ 6500 = 143Mph in 5th
Std GTI 14" wheels @ 6500 + 138Mph
The Holden Barina g/box is more readily available & cheaper than
a Gti box & has the same internal ratios......NO you cannot just change
the diff. Also Mk1 & Mk2/3 gearbox internals are not interchangeable so
decide which gearbox you are going to use before you start.
Clutch slave cylinder use IBS p/n JB4130 mount it near reverse s/w & modify
clutch operating arm to bend about 45deg. Slave cylinder about $25
Welcome Blumin, set a spell....
I know that MINSTAR has put some thought into this with his Starlet conversion as well (5 speeds). What we talked about was the rolling diameter you can achieve on a roundy or clubby with say 12 or 13 inch rims. If you compare little Suzi wheels with say 12s there ain't all that much difference in rolling diameter. Not an exact science but "close enough".
The resultant loss of top end speed is likely to be bearable and could mean peoples licences will be kept longer

, however, the increase in acceleration could stress the standard drivetrain a tad.
Controlling the beast will be another thing!!
I assume from the above that you are saying the Barina box fits under the Suzi without modification? Uses the same mounting points as the Gti box??
