So what dizzy do you recommend that:
1) will not seize
2) will have the right advance curve
3) not move the timing all over the place
4) not have points

I have seen the Lucas dizzy seize.
Can you find a Lucas dizzy with the right curve for your engine (without needing modifications)
The Lucas dizzy is not very good at advancing accurately, it goes all over the place.

I don't know why the SA kiddies hate the Hitachi dizzy with a passion.

What's wrong with points?

And why do you get so much scatter?
Would you notice the difference if the timing stayed as critical as 1* across the rev range?

You are complaining about a 40 year old distributor...
Rebuild it, and it will last another 40 years.

Unlike these Pulsar distributors - who knows how long they last before they cease up or what not.
Rubbish I say.

They bounce at high revs.
They can not give as good a spark at high revs.
They wear out quickly.
As they wear out the timing moves.
The pressure of the points causes the bushing in the dizzy to wear out.

The Lucas design is not very good, even when new.

My Pulasr dizzy has been on my car 19 months without any maintanace, how long it lasts I don't know. But it is better than any Lucas dizzy that I have used in the past 30 years.

I would guess that the dizzys that seize have been in a wrecking yard with a broken or missing dizzy cap. (not to mention being washed with a pressure wash to remove the grease and oil)

Alternative to Pulsar dissy is a Lucas one with Pertonix. The other thing you can do is to use a modified pulsar in the way that I said...

I use the MG Metro electronic Lucas dizzy and it has the best of both worlds, built for the car and just as reliable as the hitachi unit

Buy a new distributor??? http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=33631

Mod your pulsar one! I'm not saying they don't work, they do once modded... They're just not as good as originally thought that's all...

Buy my Lucas electronic 45 dizzy. No points & it fits straight into your A series. Dunno about the curve though...

Or, buy one of the two new old stock lucas dizzys I've got. Still have points but have zero wear. Ones a 43 and ones a 45. See my anchient ad in the for sale section.

Or get an A+ engine & run the electronic dissy. The one in Mokesta is off an MG Metro and has a 12 deg plate in it and the other is off a stock Metro and has a 10 degree plate in it. Both have 9 degree vac advance. They're great!
