I've been reading the threads about 4efte conversions in round nose cars. It seems the biggest issue is cooling the things. I've got an idea that may be ok.

Richard Anderson of ARE Radiators in Brisbane www.are.com.au makes curved custom intercoolers and oil coolers. He could make an intercooler in the shape of the mini grille similar to the oil coolers in the picture below:

The rover grille shape with the thick surround would be suitable as the end tanks could be made to look like the grille surround.

It certainly wouldn't be cheap and not as stealthy as a standard grille but you wouldn't need to cut a scoop into the bonnet and could fit a water radiator behind so no need for it to go into the boot.

What do you think?

Mokesta I toyed with this idea even in the clubby as you have the peaked front so I was going to have it basically bent in the middle to followed the angle at the front of the car. May still go down this route when the money I'm getting for my kidney comes through from Paypal.

thats the thing though...the front of a roundnose (the grille area anyway) isnt really all that round :P so...having an uber expensive bendy radiator wouldnt really make a HUGE difference i wouldnt think...matt's solution is interesting...although i would have probably tried to fit a square one in the predominantly square hole that the grille fits over...

Yeah, I've being toying with the idea of putting it in the front where the grille fits, this is part of a pm i sent on the 31st December 2006 to inazuma.

Quote:
My most recent thought is to try and fit it in the front. When i complete the exhaust manifold i'll review, but I'm thinking of having a twin coer radiator made that will fit into the grille opening. The radiator tanks will be on the sides of the radiator not on the top and bottom and the 850 grille may even fix back onto the radiator???

I am unsure of thermo fans and room for them. I suppose once the manifold is made then i can make up a template and see how it all fits.

So ithink we are all trying to explore ideas on how to best fit the radiator withourt being seen.

yep...i am having the same thoughts these days too...i was actually wondering if you could do a split...so have the radiator and intercooler sitting right next to eachother sticking through the grille...just a thought...not sure about it yet :P

Richard is an artist and he can make just about anything. I wasn't really thinking about something as obvious and agricultural as Matt's, more like a grille-shaped intercooler than a panel-hole shaped one.

I hope one of you comes up with something that works well in Brisbane heat and doesn't involve a boot-mounted rad. That's all that is stopping me from doing a Striped and ditching the G13B for 4EFTE. I will be taking mine to the track and wouldn't want it to drop all its fluids like so many standard Jap turbos do when they do track days.

I have been following the roundy builds and at this time I just can't see the 4EFTE being able to lap consistantly without getting hot. Traffic light GP will be fine.

Well... I've got the shell, I've got the suzuki, taken the engine, wiring, dash etc out & thrown the rest away and I've paused.

Mokesta,

Where in Brisbvegas are you? I've seen those door trims before.....

JC

BTW- With regard to your radiator, go to your local bike wrecker. You'll be surprised with what you find...........at a mere fraction of the price.

My place is in Windsor (see Frappr) but I bought the car from a young bloke in Caboolture over a year ago. It had been running up to about March 03 I think. Poor kid never checked the oil.
