Now Now Now,,,lets not all start bitchin about how much power can be achieved from "Whatever" engine, pointless waste of time.
the fact is that Jap donks "CAN" be made to give big numbers (honda turbo =well over 500 avaliable hp) --->but totally undrivable for road use,,,a """roady""" tuned jap donk, of just about any sort, would be very nice & sweet, but as Andrew suggests, it`s not the way he wants his mini.
The A series is a little sufficated , yes,,,but to make 120hp at the wheels with an A series is also "USUALLY" not a road usable engine "UNLESS" a very well set up supercharge/turbocharger assy is designed/produced
120hp at the wheels in a mini makes for a VERY F`ken fast brick & i can tell you that they are pretty hard to hold traction , BIG dollars will be needed to be thrown at it & huge amounts of time to make it all work well together as a package.
Think about 120hp at the wheels & you have (approx) 150hp at the engine,,,dream on!!!!!,,,only the very full on race power mini addicts have that sort of grunt & i don`t know anyone with that sort of thing on the road at the moment (using an A series) & very few race minis have that sort of grunt either,,,very few!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do know of a few with 100hp at the wheels,,,not hard to do,,, but still costs big bucks HUGE dollars & also full engine strip downs & re-builds are needed every 200 race miles or 5000 road miles,,,,simply not worth it for a road car.
be realistic if you want a road mini...100hp at the wheels with a supercharger/turbocharger is realistic,,,smooth, drivable, & quite road use-able,,,but,,,if you use all that power, all of the time, then be ready to have to strip it down every so often to keep it all sweet, crisp & honest. (just like a race donk)
100hp + (at the wheels) A series naturally aspirated is a "RACE" motor needing race fuel & race S/C C/R gearbox to keep it on cam,,,totally usless for the road.
dam good fun on the track tho
I know i`m very biased,,,But,,,the best """COMPROMISE""" is a twin cam A series with turbo/super charger & engine management system (& no subframe/body mods)
ok,,,may not produce the grunt like a 500hp turbo honda,,,may not even last as well,,,but i believe it`s the best value for money,,,bang for buck,,, piece of "ROAD DRIVABLE" reliable, smooth, quiet, stealth, powerfull, kit avaliable for an A series
& no,,,mines still not a runner yet

forgive me,,,i am a very poor man with a broken foot
Andrew,,,be more realistic,,,120hp AT THE WHEELS is gonna break crap & cost chunks,,,back it off a tad & be happy with that,,,other wise you will want to build """2 Minis"""
one roady .........& .............one full house race weapon
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now that`s what i call common sense
I know i`ve said the word "Compromise" & used it in relation to my twin cam bimmer turbo injected donk,,, i really do hate that word....BUT!!!!!!! Compromise is what is needed if you want a """"""""""""Fast -Reliable- Road- mini"""""""""""""
That`s where jap motor conversions come into the picture, they`re a dam good compromise,,,,BUT!!! They just aren`t a Mini then hey??? (says he with a turbo alloy V8 mini)
