So $2200 for a roll cage......
Do you have discs?
Do you have good ball joints?
How old are your brake hoses?
How are your trailing arm bushes?
When was the master cylinder rebuilt?
Are the CV joints knackered?
All of these things can save your life.
A roll cage without a helmet can kill you.

so can a B pillar or steering wheel

why is it you are the only one who thinks rollcages are bad? rollcages improve rigidity of the car (better handling) and mean its less likely to crumple like a tin can when you get hit by something...given the multitude of metallic components there are in a mini's passenger compartment, the rollcage is but one more i can fatally injure my head on...personally i'd rather be dead from a head injury than mashed in amongst crumpled panels and shattered glass...leaves a prettier corpse
i have none of those things...but since this is a from-the-ground-up rebuild...they will be bought soon enough

next year at the way my finances are going...this car will be off the road and unregistered/undriveable for about 2yrs...so the danger of driving it isnt so clear and present
my rollout plan is thus:
0-6 months:
1) rollcage
2) body work and paint (including painting the rollcage)
6-12 months:
3) dry subframes cleaned, straightened and powdercoated
4) adjustable spax coilover conversion kit (i know i dont NEED the dry subframes...but they are easier to get and i would like a new set in there)
5) front discs (KAD or metro turbo discs, havent decided yet) with a full set of braided hoses (for most things actually...love that bling factor

)
6) rear super-fin cooper s drums
7) have the wheels cleaned up a bit and made new again

new cv's and perhaps steering assy (if i feel i wanna get new everything)
12-18 months:
9) reco'd 1275 A+
10) stainless steel LCB extractors, dual exit exhaust (symmetry baby YEAH!)
18-24 months:
11) seats (cobra imola 2) and other interior doodads (i've always liked momo so prolly alot of that)
12) brightwork and other exterior doodads (halogen conversion...maybe some new taillights etc)
24-12,000 months:
13) start upgrading engine as money becomes available...this is the slow drawn-out part as since its on the road and will have 75ish hp at the fly should give me a nice bit of power for the time...
this is gonna take YEARS...but atleast it'll be pretty sweet in the end and a grand learning experience in the mean time
mini rebuild: $25,000~$30,000
endless hours of fun zipping around back streets and racetracks: PRICELESS!
