Dellorto DHLA40. A 45 is really a bit big for a 998...

40's are common as. Most Alfettas had them back in the 70s & 80s.

40 it is!

um. do i need a pair? i wouldn't have thought so, but carbys are voodoo to me anyway.

how do i go about matching jets to a 998, given that the standard jets on whatever alfa i pull a 40 off would be wrong?

No you only need 1 carb.

Keep the Alfa's stock 55 idle jets, but you will need to buy 2 of each:
emulsion tubes 7772.6 (Alfa's ones won't work)
air correction jets 180
main jets 145 or 150
You may need to change these later, but it will run. (check what the Alfa ones are in there now, I forget)

Standard chokes in it now are 33mm, they will be OK.

As it's S/H I would definitely buy a Fuel Miser repair kit for it. Available from Repco, Autobarn etc, or PM MiniK on ths site (cheaper).

Happy gurgling... :P
