Not at all....as a matter of fact tonight was the 1st time I have topped up the water in like 4 or 5 months, and it didn't really need much.

Cheers

You may get away with 10w40 in NZ where it's a bit cooler..but i would still run 20w50..which you bought anyway..Castrol Formula R 20w50 NON synthetic is my choice..

As for extractor's on a 998..go for some 3-1's/cooper freeflows..they will be better for a 998 with less power and give you more torque and just as good 'extraction'.

Do not mix synthetic with mineral oil..theoretically they are compatible..well so they say..but it's easy enough to drain..(looking at the front of the car, there is a nut on the left hand side of the sump) ...oil filter is right there on the front of the block, easy to see..simply undo the nut, drain..put the nut back...replace filter.. (don't forget to put a film of oil on the rubber gasket) fill it back up and away you go)

When you replace your filter you'll get rid of that black casing and the filter will have it's own housing that bolt's straight onto the carb..

i have an 1100, with a few modifications, and i have the 3 in 1 extractors or whateva... was just wondering if i would get a noticeable difference in power if i went to the LCB or i think thats what they are called...

and also my local mini place recommends a webber for best power gains rather than twin carbs, was wondering if this is right? or is he saying it so i have to pay him more? (haha, i didnt get a price for the twins so i dont know if its cheaper or dearer)... and how much faster will it go than with a single carb (dont know how good it is, i got a spare with my car so im guessin its a little better than stock)

sorry if that was too over the shop.

give me a call.
minicranks
021708777 im on the kapiti coast and specailise in minis and repairs.
engine rebuilds and modifications are a pleasure for me.
Sounds like you have a bit of condensation or moisture in the head (common during winter here).
I use penrite oil and buy it from supercheap (cos they are the only supplier in NZ).
Simple modifications to a 998 will get it to run as well as a 1275 without the huge cost but i must admit it is easier to go straight to a 1275motor and drop it in your existing body.
cheers jai
Minibitz extractors are form the uk and are really good but a bit too big for a 998, there are local ones you can buy a bit cheaper, and $200 is really cheap for an exhaust system, make sure its the right type.

Cool...someone in the region who knows about mini's 8)

Is the headgasket easy to replace?? would something like this be of use to me??

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 169424.htm

It's probably close enough for me to go and pick up.

What is that likly to set me back?? I must admit it seems to be going pretty well, quite nippy but Im not used to the nippy bit being early in the rev range then nothing when the revs are up....having a turbo it's the other way around
