There has been some talk of putting a echo motor in a roundnose mini, so i went looking for info.

The best motor the aussie cars got was the 1.5L in the vvti echos, 1 NZ-FE this puts out 80kw. Looks like a very compact motor.

This is a 1L echo motor with a HKS turbo kit making 100kw on 6psi.

I have also found out that somewhere in europe that there has been 400 factory turbo echos made. From what i can translate they are called yaris TS turbo. They put out only 150hp but are running like 5psi. These are getting built by TRD and look like they will mass produce them soon. But countries with high emmision regulations like UK will not be getting them, probably same here. There is also a another one called Vitz RS turbo, think these are in japan.

More info on it here:

So who out there has a sister or mother with an echo in there driveway?? Go get the tape measure out :D

Yeah Brad, that's the echo thing I was talking about. As doc says may be too tall instead of too deep. But hey it looks close. Wait a couple of years for the Japs to wrap them around trees and we will have a ready supply of sports engines :D

i dont think there that tall really,,, have a look at the motor in relation to the top of the suspension tower in the first picture. It sits way under it and the starlet motor in mine sat above them i think. maybe an optical allusion......

wow ben great pictures mate :D

Dosnt have the sump on it but that does look alot smaller then the 4efte.

Now we just need a pic without all that plastic crap so we can see where the inlet and outlets are. Looks like to me on those pics the inlet is on the front of the engine

I knew they would have to do something funky to get it to fit in an Echo. Also is it just me or does that gearbox look like an exact replica of the 4E one just shrunk down...

Also got MiniVan Japanese Pics (slightly different turbo set up I noticed? Looks aftermarket given BOV etc)..

Brad, look at the bottom- I think the sump (flat one?) is there, if not what's that black thing bolted up all around there...??

Guys,

I cant see where the enfgine mounts are either - I wonder if it is similair to the Starlet?

And whats that circular cutout at the rear end of the casing? :?

Andrew, given that triangular bolting pattern I would say a very close approximation to the Starlet engine mount arrangement at least on the left hand side...
