I am having trouble, which way round do the master cylinders go. Brake at the back or front and clutch at the back or front.

The early 1969 MK2 S had tin tanks like the MK1 S.

The plastic type cutch master was added some time before the plastic type brake master.

From YG2S4 924 they had Plastic Brake master tank to the rear. Plastic Clutch master tank to the front.

I thought I would add the extra info for 2 reasons. You may want to fit the factory correct style and the bolt length may be too short if you fit the wrong type.

No I don't. It's probably the same with just longer bolts welded on.

If using the plastic type master cylinders just make sure at least one thread is showing with the base spacer and spring washers fitted.

Shown is a pedal box from a Sept 1970 S with dual plastic reservoirs. Your may be able to get an idea of the length of the stud/weld-bolts.

Here is one from a Sep 1970 MK2 S. There appears to be 23 threads showing

I think this one is from a MK1 S. Looks to be about 18 threads showing.

Sorry I dont have a side by side comparison

If it helps - YG2S4 839 was fitted with the tin master cylinders.

So, the long bolted pedal box is Mk2 and the short bolted pedal box is Mk1.

Pedal box stud lengths tin and plastic styles.jpg

Photos of Mk 1 tin tank and Mk2 plastic reservoir style pedal boxes.
(Photo is a bit deceptive for length as the shorter one is further away).
Early Mk1 S(both tin tanks) on LH side: 20 threads are showing; 22mm long.

Mid-1970 Mk2 S (both plastic reservoirs) on RH side: 24 threads showing; 25.5mm long.

The early pedal box (on right) used hex bolts welded to the underside - Mk2 (on left) used special studs welded on.
