I've started looking at the motor for the mk2 S and had a generic engine stand. I've seen a couple and adapters on eBay, but they looked quite expensive for what they were. So, for $20 worth of steel, some sharp water (a good mate owns a waterjet and a bit of CAD work), I whipped this up this weekend. Just had to make an additional spacer for the alternator holes. Will make life a lot easier.

Would it be possible to use this type of stand to do a hot run engine test before installing into my Mini or is there a better way. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Probably not suitable for an engine test rig as the bottom two holes/bolts go into the block where the oil filter goes. I have made a trolley that bolts up to the front subframe that could be used with the motor insitu. I’ll post a pic when I get back from Alaska in a few days.

Great job! I was lucky enough to find an engine stand with a similar plate on Ebay - was great for cleaning and painting the engine. Had no trouble finding a buyer when I needed the room in the garage - he already had a couple of stands but was cheaper and easier for him to buy mine for his mini engine.

If you want to test run an engine it’ll be perfectly happy on the floor. The sump is nice and flat
