Yep, 14ish volts into one side of the fuse

Now just see if the other side is earthed to the body.

Yep, got the ohms setting on and there is no resistance. From my limited knowledge that means an earth issue?

Thats good and bad- bad cause its there but good cause its easy to find.
Disconnect the relay module, ac switchpack, thermostat and the other items in the circuit and retest.
If it still earths then its probably a wire thats rubbed through somewhere, if good then reconnect things till you get an earth connection again.

Chances are either: the thermostat has given up as its earth mounted, bit could be fried relay unit or crook switchpack.

Everything is still disconnected and it's earthing. Sounds like a rubbed wire. I'm not looking forward to going through the whole loom to find it. Maybe I should just rewire the thermo/relay/switch pack to the fuse box myself.

Nice fault finding, great to see this level of help on a Sunday night.

What were the signs the compressor had no power?

I'm wondering if mine needs a regas or has a similar problem to yours - blows air fine but not cooled. However something is kicking in when I turn on the AC, I hear it in the bay and the revs drop.
Was yours like that or no signs of compressor life?

The blower still worked and I got the drop in revs when it turned on, but it just blew lukewarm air. I presumed it needed a regas, but after the aircon guy had left it still blew lukewarm air so I just chucked a multimeter on the plug...no power. A6 fuse is the one that is supposed to kick on for the compressor

I Pm'd you with the location.
I currently have the dash off and about to start rewiring from the A6 fuse to the thermostat/switchpack/relay module. Wish me luck!

A6 is for the whole AC system, not just the compressor.

In my experience a rubbed through wire will usually give an intermittent fault or short, rather than something that seems fairly 'connected' like you are describing. What other work or changes have been done lately? I'm thinking along the lines of a recent screw through wiring behind a panel maybe?

Often the location of a loom fault can be found by checking for continuity while moving parts of the loom carefully. I've done this before by using a meter that has an an audible buzzer or similar so I don't have to watch anything.

I'm not familiar with the Rover wiring at all, but would be checking where the OEM connection points are first just to see what I could see. Where is the junction point SJ29 located physically? Is it at one of the 3 plugs?
