Another 300 kilometer commute, just for the weekend and then I'm off the coast again for three weeks!

Never mind, at least I get to drive back to Sydney in the Mini on Sunday..

Few bits and bobs today:

1. Removed 39 years worth of grime from the engine steady bars, gave them a lick of paint and replaced the bushes with purple polyurethane units.
2. Received a nice big box of parts to be installed gradually as i clean/repair/paint various sections on the car ...
3. Confirmed my factory paint code Silver/Blue (Dulon, 562-30341) is available for mixing by a local paint supplies place - Colourfast DIY Lawnton

Only 19997 jobs left to do!

Yesterday
Drove to Richmond, up Kurrajong and on to Mt Tomah for lunch.
On to Mt Vic and the back through Katoomba and home to Emu.
Ran faultlessly all day :D

I made some temporary repairs to the mini so i could get to work tomorrow. With all the rain he didn't get there today. So the trusty plastic bag came out to cover the distributor and the plastic cover to stop the splash. Long term plans are to make a perspex cover to go behind the grill

Tried to replace a 47 year old battery terminal lug with a brand newy from Supercheap. New lug won't open up wider to attach to battery. Tried to widen the the lug and it snapped into two pieces like a chocolate bar. I thought hmm lucky it comes in a packet of two so I tried to widen the other one and it too snapped.

Ended up cleaning up the good old 47yr old battery terminal lug and put it back on the car.

Morale of this story: IF IT AINT BROKE FOR 47 YEARS, DON'T FIX IT

You probably know there are different size battery terminal lugs. Did you buy the correct size for your application?

Yes and yes. I was talking about bending them 1mm wider so I could get it down the thermal more. It would even budge 0.5mm before snapping. The cheap Chinese ones are some sort of cast metal and it ain't bendy

Painted wheel wells - inner (black) and outer (boot-side, silver-blue - this will be the colour of the car). Installed new rear shocks and hi-lo's and gave the whole area a general tidy.

Now to wait a couple of years before the car is back on the road for it to settle so I can cut a bit out of the ride height, but for now it measures equal from L to R - which is a start.

Next weekend - fronts.

Welded up a damaged 940 head I was given. It had dropped a valve, trashed the exhaust insert, and the inlet seat too.
I used 100% nickel electrode to repair the inlet seat and fill the exhaust seat recess.
If it passes crack testing we will cut seats in the nickel. No insert.
