Is he only sign of a slave cylinder failing an obvious leak? I can't see anything on the outside of the brakes at this stage.

Do you mean the outside of the drum?? A fair bit of fluid can escape before enough makes its way across the backplate to appear on the "outside".

Take the drum off and peel back the dust seal and have a look .. Doesn't cost anything

Cheers, Ian

Will do Ian. Thanks for the tip. Last time I had one fail it was really obvious on the outside. So I'll check first before I conclude its the MC.

Are the slave cylinder seals hard to replace?

No they are a piece of cake. But check the cylinder bore for rust pitting, hone if needed.

Checking the rear brakes and handbrake adjustment should take 15 minutes tops, then you can do a visual check of the master and then remove the wheels and drums to check the slave cylinders. Do you have a brake booster?

I hadn't seen that. Thanks Tim. I'm going to have a look at it all on the weekend if I have time.

No booster.
