Just a quick one, I've got a set of yellow urethane bushes for my lower control arms and they don't have a metal insert in them. Do I need one or do they just run on the pin as is?

Cheers

Sean

I think most urethane/nolathane bushes are a neat fit on the shaft without any inside metal inserts.
Mine are.

Most urethane bushes come with grease. Don't run them dry..!

The last few Nolothane branded bushes that i have fitted to cars (not minis) have been supplied with their own packets of grease which actually say it's molybdenum disulfide.

So i suppose that stuff is fine for the bushes too.

Regular lithium chassis grease is OK too.

I'm surprised you have to Grease the bushes.
The elastomer is there for NVH and to eliminate "sliding surfaces" so you eliminate wear and reduce maintenance by not having to grease them.
In good design, all of the suspension movement should be taken Within the Elastomer  , not by having the elastomer sliding on the suspension elements.

Lurethane has its uses and is oil resistant, but...
If you try and make lurethane tight like a `live rubber bush', it tears up.
In a previous life (tooling engineer) I had a lot of experience with lurethane used in press tooling, for metal forming.

The other problem with lurethane inner bottom bushes is they flow and deform with stress.
That's why I and others still use original bushes, for road use.
