I have a mate with a midget (same as a MK2 sprite - commonly called a spridget) with a 13B in it - 800kg, 240bhp..... he can lift the front wheels off the ground when he's got new tyres on the back....

Baracade,
It really depends on the type and condition, you can pay any where from $1000 for an incomplete basket case to over $20,000 for a really good bugeye and before any one blasts me on $1000 ones I missed out on one 2 months ago that was complete for 1 grand that was complete but needed a shed load of work. Some bastard beat me to it by 2 days!

Midgets (depending on year) are basically the same as a sprite too, but badged as an mg. The rubber bumper models have 1500 spitfire motors in them though (yuk), but they all share the same basic suspension but different body work (still similar though).

Dad has 2 for sale at the moment, I am not sure but I think both are around 7 grand. One of them is a a round wheel arch model (rear arches) and the other is a rubber bumper model.

You need to know where to find the rust in these cars before you buy as they can rust out really bad in some places which can create a lot of problems.

Hope this helps.
Dave.

Sombody else knows there spridget well, That 240hp one is forsale at the monment isnt it..... There is a few guys doing that mod.. As far as the battry holder goes, i just fitted that bat in yesterday.
You dont get a whole lot quicker A series than this car, I think a cortina in a bugeye is the next thing i will go for.

I wish we could put rotaries in them up here, I am pretty sure it's not legal. Dont use a corty motor, go with a 711m block out of a mk2 escort as they are a hell of a lot stronger.

I used to do a bit of work in a workshop here in Brisbane that put these motors into spridgets, they were a very basic conversion almost like they are meant to fit there. I think dad still has the hydraulic bellhousing and the tailshaft we had for my old car.

Makka, those lotus engines are worth a fortune now. Dad had one in a rally escort with the wide wheel arces etc. Apparenty it was a rocket. They can actually be stroked out to just under 2 litres using l20b crank and rods, wich would be interesting. I think I actually have th article on your mates twincam somewhere, did it have gold 15 inch mags?

The 2 litre pinto motor is a no go, they are way too heavy for a sprite (I know I have 2 in the shed) and you have to completly cut out the battery tray and most of the gearbox x-member. Doesnt sound too bad, but due to the way the cars were built it loses a lot of strength.

supercharged 850, that is a mk2 which is what I had they are very nice cars. I am actually waiting on some info on a cheap one in SA at the moment, but it needs a full rebuild (it's in pieces and on a rotissery) I can let you know what I find out if you are interested. There were also mk3 Like clubmn's one i think and there is a mk4 as well. There were others built with mg badges and called midgets as well.

Dave.

There's a guy here in Sydney who has a nissan CA18 turbo motor in a sprtie, it a absoulute weapon that takes a real art to drift it sideways.

Wow I would love to see some photo's of that. I bet there's been a lot of cutting in the engine bay to get that in. They are a great little motor though.

Here's a couple of pages with rotary powered spridgets:
