This is on ebay now, I never knew about them and looking at it to me it seems like it has 12 ports :? unless one set of 4 ports are for cooling or something.
Peoples thoughts and comments.

An interesting head...

Very odd design!

you're right Kenno, the piece of aluminium square section in the last photo is a water manifold that's bolted to the top rear set of ports

one of ~10 made, pretty rare!

There is an 8 port thread on mk1 forum, and the below is in reference to that head on eBay...

That Pinion Port was originally run on a 970 and short stroke (58mm) 999 in Victoria BC, Canada by John Erith. It was damaged I believe in the late 70's early 80's and was sold to a friend in Victoria BC, then to another in Texas, USA and then sold to Australia. The intake Manifold and twin 40 DCOE's I believe are still in Texas. I had a few sets or valves for it (now sold) but I may still have some although not a complete set. Cool to see it show up again.

Cheers

Surely he's joking expecting $1500 for a head with that much corrosion...

Well it's much easier to fix an alloy head with corrosion than an iron head.. I'm sure if someone wanted to save it they could

Obviously repair wasn't economical back in the day.

Is repair possible these days, or will it always remain an exhibit?

Once upon a time iron block and head repairs were just about impossible as well...

Looks like head porosity to me. Also interesting that there appears to be a break between the valves, with the seats either side.
