Found this old thread and thought some of the contributors might be interested.
I have a very close to standard metro turbo setup, but with a NoDiz distributorless ignition system fitted.
So I thought I would upgrade to a GT1548 turbo with help from Benjamin on this forum (and also from "boostmini" forum -
http://boostmini.justboard.net/).
We have decided to lose the cast exhaust manifold, as the GT1548 uses a different stud pattern to the T3. Whilst I believe it's possible to use an adaptor plate, this new manifold is a better option.
The rest of the conversion SHOULD be straightforward enough, with Ben also supplying other bits and pieces like exhaust flange and oil line.
I don't want the car off the road very long at all, and Ben's help can only aid in this regard.
Currently only getting probably 4psi (without the factory module fitted), and the wastegate fitted to the new turbo is 11psi, so I expect things will change a lot. Thankfully the NoDiz provides a lot of adjustability of advance.
As the bottom end is in remarkable condition (a 1987 engine bought by me in 1995 from Northern Mini Parts - and only 3000 miles done since), I plan to leave that alone for a while yet.
Will post some pics if I remember!
Cheers
Matt
