Damn Timmy, that Stage 1 kit just gave you too much power for the ol' girl to handle it! Sorry to hear it though man

That's the funny thing, I wasn't even giving it much power at the time, I was going down a big hill in a 100 zone. I'm glad it was just near home and not on one of our long runs though!

There was supposed to be a driveshaft coupling here...

Bugger!

:!:

It was quite an interesting experience! A loud bang followed by the horrible flailing of the driveshaft smashing around everywhere (while doing 100kph!). I wasn't sure exactly what went wrong till I stopped..

Progress will soon be made. As soon as the Brisbane weather lets up and the shed isn't too hot.

Drove the car to Vic roads today and now have my club plates and can drive my car. Also got a delivery from the UK with disc brake kit for the car but thinking I might just drive and enjoy it this weekend before I start pulling it apart.

Nice, don't forget to check all the bump stops and things while you are under and your shocks as well =D. And book a wheel alignment after :).

Thanks for the tip Nick, the car was fairly recently restored so hopefully all those items are in good running order but It certainly wont hurt to give every thing the once over whilst I am under there.

Today I tried to mount a new set of cobra seat frames to an existing pair of cobra seats and get them in the car. I failed :(

Like many have shown before, the front legs of the frame are too long so I chopped off one hole. The seats are still way too high. Then I found that my '64 850 has seat mount spacing of 321mm but the frames have a spacing of 327mm, so they just won't fit. (My later cars have 327mm spacing).

Like others have posted the frames have crappy rear legs that are too close to the cross member and end with little plastic feet. The transverse spacing is much narrower than the factory seat. The result is you can feel the floor flexing under the seat.

These frames are going to need a lot of surgery at my mate's workshop before they are acceptable. I may just start with another set of runners from the wreckers.

After that I installed new hand brake cables. The spring retainer at the rear hub doesn't 'key' into the bracket on the hub like the original and keeps popping out. I had to bend the hub brackets. It gives me the sh1ts when new parts are inferior to the originals!

Some times your better off putting the hours in to refurbing original parts. Good luck with it Mokesta.
