My cylinder head finally got crack tested - Mini blew a head gasket at such an inconvenient time of year!

Results came back with no cracks but one of the 'bronze plugs'(?) are leaking, so a new one of those is being put in along with a full service and a nice little port and polish. Will hopefully have the head back in a few days and get the thing back on the road

Also picked some of this stuff up to try as I've heard great things about it.

The mini I noticed would apply the brakes by itself whenever I started the engine up. I couldn't drive it as it was like the handbrake was on. It would release the brakes when I gave the engine some gas however, so it must have been the booster. This is the first hiccup I've had since the car was finished being restored 5 years ago.

I took the booster off without disconnecting the brake lines in the hope it was something simple....and luckily it was.

The little elbow hose venting the back of the diaphragm to the air valve had come off through age. I wonder why I used the old bit of pipe when a simple bit of 6mm hose would suffice...never mind, I must have promised myself an original part. All fixed and back in service.

Put my new MED sticker across the windscreen.
Won it in a contest on Facebook. Guessed the correct CCs of a cylinder head in the picture.m
Not quite centre but it looks cool and doesn't obstruct vision.

Collected two parcels from the PO. One was a Walbro in-tank fuel pump to replace the SPi pump and the other was two idlers for the charger drive belt.

According to DHL my Minispares UK parcel is in Brisbane and ready for delivery. That one contains more than 40 parts and came very close to the duty threshold. I am very excited as those parts will get the mini much closer to being finished. Bring on Monday's courier!

I went to the MITG show and shine, which was great! :D

I had three mechanical dramas though which wasn't.... Number one was on the way up. The gear stick locating pin unwound itself and caused the gear stick to flop around. I managed to catch it before it fell out though! The bolt thread was rubbish and wouldn't stay in properly. I made it to the show fine after this
Image

Second drama was a repeat of the first, except the bolt fell out completely and it was a struggle to find gears after that as I had no way of fixing it...

Third drama was a bit more terminal!
Image

Which required some assistance
Image

There was supposed to be a driveshaft coupling here...

Thanks to the two guys who stopped to offer help, much appreciated. It happened less than 1km from home too..

finally benched tested my renew su fuel pumps and all is well.
Started to get my new exhaust ready to fit, cut the mid section to suit my extractors and had to cut some slots in my down pipe to allow for clamping and fitting the mid pipe. Still a little bit of fiddling before I can fit it.
