I hate it when that happens. I have a feeling my fingers are going to slip on my keyboard soon too...

Don't you hate that. All you want to do is have it in your hands. Keep us updated with the build.
What upgrades did you go with?

I didn't get any extras - I wanted the new chassis and I'll see what the guys have at the club swap meet in a few weeks time...

Only reason I haven't bought a V2 is because I invested in new roundie packs early this year. Plus I have a terrifying urge to go back to M03. Need to hit you up on building TA03 ball diffs, Tasca! Ball diffs keep beating me, but that's a driver issue...

yeah, I think I'm going to get a TA03 diff too, just sounds easier to deal with, Nathan says that's what he uses and everything I can find says there's no difference.

I might have to do something about a different battery pack too - the one I have is a press fit into the m01, I'll let you know if it fits the newie

It will be like throwing socks down a hallway in the V2, but use the supplied kit battery holders and it will hold it in very well.

The ball diffs need shims and such to get right. I don't know the black art to it, so the oil gear diff does the trick for me.

My Ball Diff secrets are super-super-secret and have been gleaned from many of RC-Mini.net's finest fettlers.

Unlike the gear diffs though, once they are built and in the car, you never ever touch them again ;) My last one was 5 years old and is still going strong :) I don't add anything that doesn't come with the ball-diff kit to the build, and it is 'essentially' built as per instructions with only a minor tweak here and there :)

The V2 tapes the battery in a-la Touring Car style - so it should be fine once all taped in :) The V1 mounts will still work too though - so you might find it works with the older style mounts anyhow!

See... black art!

But don't get carried away with all this diff talk, Simon. For you at this stage, you want a kit diff in it so it's easier to drive.

No black art - just speed secrets that I'm keeping from you ;)

I'll just share them with everyone else instead ;)

maybe these tips?

Differential Building a differential for the mini starts with a TA03 Ball differential. The diff. parts should be assembled as per the Hop-up instructions. The only deviation from this should be in your choice of greases. Don't be afraid to experiment with different greases to tune your car. Softer grease should help the car turn better on a tight course, while thicker grease should help the car "bite" more off the corners. For the M03L at the Tamiya America Test Track, I use Tamiya's Anti-wear Grease, this provides a lot of lock-up for the differential. Tighten the differential until it stops, but do not apply excessive force. Make sure the diff. spins smoothly. A set of lightweight diff. balls will improve your chances of achieving smoothness. A differential that is set too loose will not only make the car slow and difficult to drive, but eventually will come apart.

Parts:
53267 - TA03 Ball Differential Set
53379 - Light Weight Diff. Balls
53439 - Anti-Wear Grease

Are they from David Jun or someone similar?

He isn't far from the mark - not sure about the lightweight diff balls though, the ones with the kit seem to be just fine for my applications!

The rest of the advice is pretty good though :)

Lastly, as others pointed out, build the diff as per instructions, include the tips from tony, and go race it. 99% of all the fast guys I know of build their diff the same way.
