Does anyone know where I could buy a small ram tube to fit inside an offset Ramflo air filter for a 13/4 inch SU?

Not much room-
You could get one turned up from alloy. Similar to my Dellorto/Weber stubstacks. Just need to sketch it up..

They won't have anything short enough. Bugger-all room in an offset Ramflo..

i got a hp filter for $75 that has a alloy turned base like what dr mini is talking about in it. check it out here http://www.hi-flow.com/HPAirFilters.htm

not a lot of room with their base model filter about 2 - 3mm between in and the firewall and it protrudes in to the speedo cut out a fair amount. but the quality is fantastic. and it performs quite well. i'll be getting the k & n filter to replace the paper element in there at the moment, should go even better then too.

cheers steve

edit: there might be more room with a shorter manifold, mine is a minisport one don't really know how this compares with others for length.

Ok this is what I have, Graham Russell inlet on a 13/4 inch SU on a 030, 1275 in an 1972 Mini Moke. The offset Ramflo is already on its way. If anyone could make them they would have a market because lot's of us use the offset Ramflo's, Doc?

Yeah I could make you some, but I need dimensions of carb bore (measure it!) and filter mounting bolt sizes/spacing.

Did Vizard go into the flow tests he did on ram tubes in his books. He wrote an article in CCC on this and there is more to it than just making a tube that looks right.

Mine is a (poor) copy of Vizard's #11 one, shown on p57 in his chapter `Ram Charging'. Tuning BL's A series engine, Rev 2.
It's not a tube, it's a 4.5mm thick radiused entry that lays back at 120* to the filter backplate. Yes it works on Webers & Dellortos, should do the same on an SU.
Here's a pic..
The one outside the box is a 45mm, close to what an HIF44 one would look like.

OK Kev the id of the ramflo/carb hole is 44.5mm.

The bolt holes that hold the airfilter backing plate to the carb are 72mm apart.

Thanks mate

Just email the man with the disc backing plates on the cheap ;0)

I guess you mean 72mm centres.. what diameter are the bolts- 5/16"?
Also... how far from the bottom edge of 44.5mm carb inlet hole, to the bottom of the Ramflo filter backplate (inside measurement)?
