Swiftness- quaife
Minispares- ?
Minisport- ?
Mini speed- ?
Med - ?
Who makes the other gear sets ?

So what are all you group N boys using ? , and what do you think is the best quality or value for your money . Thanks.

BMC circa 1964 (3 syncro) Have seen and heard horror stories about some of the newer stuff.

I'm using a mini spares SCCR gear set and Quaife in my 1293 turbo running up 18psi and driven hard often and it has been great, 4 or more on and still feels new, love it.

I would recommend the Swiftune/quaife. Many of the others are too soft or you have synchro problems etc... After the teeth fell off my SC minisport diff, I am somewhat cautious of the new stuff!

the minispares gearkits are well proven, theire evolution kit is what most people in the UK use on turbo's motors putting out circa 200hp,

the Swiftune/ quaife is a very good gear kit, but be aware its a dog box, people do use them on the road and say the gear change is fine, light years ahead of old dog box's, also the gear ratios will be very close. ( just noticed you say group N, so this may be more sutable depending on regs)

the MED kit is similar to the swiftune one, I would expect similar results but only know on person that has one, and its not really been used.

minisport... bit soft IMO

Minispeed, dont know anything about their kits.

What are you doing with the car?
How much HP?
How hard are you on gearboxes?
How good are the baulk rings that are going to be used?
How well is the gearbox going to be built? I built a gearbox and used a rebuilt kit from a well known mini supplier from the UK and the 2nd and 3rd gear needle roller bearing plastic (I think) cages disintegrated didn't last a meeting! Don't use the bearings that have a black cage! Always use genuine white or steel cages for those needle roller bearings!

I've been Running with Minispares 3 and 4 syncro SCCR gearsets in my Group N car for years, no worries! the car is a good solid performer with high HP and no worries! I prefer the 3 syncro just as a preference! I just swap and change between the pair depending on how many races it has done and refurb one while the other is in use!

I have some other SCCR gearsets in my collection of parts, I have a rare Metro Challenge Gearset which is apparently a strongest of the 4 Syncro SCCR gearset due to being A+ and the ratios are the same as the Swiffy and MED dogboxes and the gears are wider than the other SCCR gearsets. It was made by Tranx for Rover, before Tranx was sold off in 1999, I was lucky enough to buy it off the old owner of tranx, he now preps FIA Apx K Minis and BMW's for a hobby.

Any questions Feel free to PM me.

Rob.

MED sccr clubman kit. Used in the race car and driven hard for last 2 years. Car makes exceptionally good horsepower and never missed a beat. Feels tight as new still, recent teardown showed no pitting on the gear teeth as you will get with a softer gear set.

Highly recommended and cheap
