I know that some people use the ARP Ford FE 3/8"rod bolts in S conrods, but are any modifications required?

I have heard of people using big block Chev rod bolts, but I believe that the knurled section on the bolt has to be machined and/or the rod bolt holes reamed to suit.

I have been offered a set of Ford ARP bolts at the right price, so curious to know what is required.

Yes I have used the `ARP' FE bolts a lot over the years, I used their BB Chev ones once 10 years ago but those did take serious machining.

There is a slight knurl band just under the head of the FE bolt, I just hold the bolt's thread gently in the lathe & polish that off a bit with a file + 180 paper. No machining is required.
If the S conrods have seen a lot of use you don't need to remove the knurl.

Thanks Doc, that was what I was hoping....the existing ARP bolts in my rods are a bit loose so the Ford bolts hopefully will sort this.

Thanks for the speedy response!

Cheers

Greg

And one set of ARP's is good enough for two mini's! (or two engine rebuilds) LOL

Also (with 16 bolts) it's only 1/2-2/3 the price of a set of 8 ARP Cooper S bolts. Material spec is the same.
