Hmm interesting! So providing I make sure they're ptfe they're ok? The other option is having a circlip grove machined into the piston which I'm not keen on

Seeger circlips (the flat ones found in Minis etc) rightly get bad press, they can break and fall out at high rpm even when fitted right.
If you want circlips I'd use round wire ones, as used in outboard motor standard & race pistons, and various automotive race pistons. You chamfer the ends of the gudgeon pin @ 45° so if the pin tries to move endwise, it traps the circlip in its groove and it can't get out.

I wouldn't mind having them but then I need to have the piston machined, I'm having trouble finding anyone who wants to do either of the options I had which is annoying..

Well I had a spare 2 hours today so I thought bugger it...

Pulling motors out is so much easier with an engine crane to lift the car up!

No turning back now! It's happening!

Fitting up the subframe? Are you just rebuilding the engine or is their machining happening?

Tbh I wish I hadn't of pulled the motor apart as finding things for it is proving difficult...

But, I'm going for a decent hp figure so, head is getting ported, block is getting bored to 75mm with Honda pistons (although I'm trying to find some cultus pistons as the Honda ones are a pain to get machined to fit..) no one seems to sell the colour coded bearings for the crank anymore so that's going to have to be ground in order to get correct fitting bearing gaps so while its there I may as well have it knife edged and polished.. Quite expensive to rebuild these little things when you add it all up..

Il trial fit the subframe, suspension and brakes before sending it to be crack tested before I paint it.

Lots of little tidy up jobs to do, and I want to make a new manifold for my carbs as I'm not 100% happy with the ports on them.

G13A pistons are 75mm 1324cc compared to the common G13B which is 1298cc.

Yeah but are they high compression? That what I'm after more so then bore size which doesn't really do much

Did a little bit more work today.

Fitted all of the suspension and brakes to the front subframe minus the shocks. These are the minisport 7.9's under jbw mambas and they fit, no stick on weigts though which is ok as mine were on the inside so a couple of clip on weights will work fine!

Then went about getting the frame into the car. Fit perfectly! Every bolt hole lines up perfectly! Very happy about that still more inner gaurd trimming to do for the radiator and alternator but so far so good!

Sigh of relief that's for sure

Does the engine and box drop in from the top on some silly angle or does it all have to gi in as an assembly from underneath?

If you get the inner gaurd out of the way on the passenger side it can go in through the top, very slow drop in though because there is no room for error.. I plan on having a removable inner gaurd panel so I can do it but at the end of the day it's best put in underneath

agreed. it'll look boss on the black 10" mambas... especially knowing whats behind them and under the hood.

i'm surprised that your front cut jig measured up the same as meeni! excellent though, that saves you you tonnes of time and effort having to re-align everything.

Do the front coilovers come with a top bracket with multiple mounting points?

Well I made allowances for the different mounting points from rover to Morris shells so it was within calculations. Yeah front coils have a top bracket with two mount holes but I will have to sacrifice maybe an inch of ride height to keep the travel reasonable. But will investigate it when it's got all the weight in it

Good work with the subframe.

Don't give up on the Honda pistons with the teflon buttons.
Mine has exactly that setup & is performing brilliantly.
Steer clear of "hybrid" motors using non-Gti parts.
They will make good torque/power, but only for a short time (ask GTi_Mini)

Always been a fan of your car. Love the colour and love seeing what you are doing with it. Keep up the good work!

That's good to hear! Who did you get to machine them? I spoke to a couple of local guys who instantly put that into the too hard basket so I went looking for an easier option..

And thanks for the kind words about the car!
