I've given up on the blower (for now) because I couldn't be bothered fabricating the intricate manifold system you need etc, so going for High comp with carbs... With everything that's going in it I'd be annoyed if it had less then 120hp at the wheels. Hopefully that has enough go for now

I'm running NA with injection and after market computer, high comp, a bit of head work, extractors and rally spec (very lumpy) cam. That's given me 115hp at the wheels so 120 with your set up should be doable.

Hey Sean,

Will you have any troubles with rego etc seeing as you are using carbies and this engine had injection? i know in NSW the vehicle has to comply with the engines emmisions and now your carbies might make this a little difficult.

A mate of mine had one in a Clubman sportscar with twin 40DCOE Webers, he said it made well over 150HP at the crank.

Hi guys, il try and answer all the questions,

Yes turbo and injection is still possible but not right now, want to see what it's like without one first!

I reckon the quad carbs should give that extra 5bhp over a standard intake system so hopefully ican get 120 atw!

The car is older then design rules so basically avoids any issue over emissions requirements and therefore I can run carbs! That's how my engineer sees I anyway and that's who il be listening to!

I originally was going to run some webers but the room behind the engine wasn't enough for them! Hoping these have the same sort of go in them!

Was a good day today, Rowan my engineer came over and assessed everything. He gave me the thumbs up to build the proper car up and get it going before he wants to see it in person again so I'm Pretty excited I can go full steam ahead!

Might have to get Rowan to come look at my Suzuki Moke, my engineer wants me to build a complete new subframe, he's not happy with Tricky's job

Just some aspects JC, he wants some stronger bars from the front, under the
motor / gbox and then continue past rear of subframe to seat cross member,
this will hopefully keep him happy as currently most of the force is carried
by the strut towers which they are not designed for.

That's a shame mate, but it still doesn't sound like he wants too much more to get it right, my engineer would still say put the bottom bars on there as he was saying it about mine and liked the way they were bent..

Well now that I have the go ahead to build the car the fabrication shop has turned into the engine shop.. Mock up front is now out the way and motor came out, within an hour it looked like this

Image

Nothing too ugly in there, lots of carbon on the pistons.. But the crank was like brand new... Contemplating wether it needs to be sent away to be honest!

While I was there I also blanked off one of the breathers for pollution control that isnt required and added a fitting on the other so I can run a speedflow hose and fitting to the catch tank

Image

Now I can paint the cam cover!

Cheers

Sean.

Got a question for anyone who knows, are teflon buttons for gudgeon pins something most machine shops will be able to make? I need them for the Honda pistons and the have to be custom made..

Any machine shop could turn some up.
Be careful, not all `teflon' sold is real teflon (aka DuPont PTFE).
There was a thread in chat, I think where someone had a tale of woe, as their pretend teflon buttons failed.
I'll try and find the thread.

Hmm interesting! So providing I make sure they're ptfe they're ok? The other option is having a circlip grove machined into the piston which I'm not keen on
