Who's a good sparkey

I'm presently got my front wiring Loom on the wall and wish to up grade a number of wires Head lights, Alt etc.
What I wish to know is what Gauge of wire is best to use or type, something else.
Yes Reg's are going to be used for Hi work area's and the reason I wish to upgrade these area's.
I will possible contact vinwires but want to know what I want first

I've only ever used a thicker guage on the headligh wiring..but if your going to start from scratch i wouldn't know..

To answer the original question. The gauge of wire you need to use is 2.5 square millimeter flexible copper.It's rated to at least 20 Amps (One light will use about 8 on it's own). Be sure to ask for flexible though as you may end up with house (commonly known as building ) wire which is not designed for vibrations or flexing. It also has about half the number of copper strands.

I did however purchase a new loom from Classic Looms in Melbourne 8 years ago for 240 dollars. The result was a perfect new loom with the correct colour wrapping (black cotton with a little bit of gold for my app.), upgraded 20 amp lighting circuits and the inclusion of two relays to operate the lights near the fuse box. You can ask for any old inclusions you like. Reversing lights, electric fuel pump, alarm, speaker wires blah blah blah....

well worth it if you have the cash

From memory they only took 3 days to make it and COD'd it through the post.

If you go to an autosparky for the wire, they use a different designation for the wire size. They call it by it's diameter, not the cross section surface area. From memory the equivalent is 2mm but if you say you need 20 amp flexible wire, they'll simply ask what colour you would like.

Be careful if buying wire from Supercheap etc, the Chinese wire is rated by the diameter of the plastic insulation!
eg. their 4.5mm cable is rated at 15 amps...

I like the tinned flexible copper marine grade wire from Bias Boating Warehouse, but it only comes in 2 colours, red & black.
