Good stuff!!! I like the moulding work.. alot

Time for my 2 cents..... make it 3 cents.

If COLD air induction is your goal, maybe relocating the air filter to under the front guard (above the tyre) is a better location.... The filter would need to be in a waterproof box, somehow vented to a splash free location.... All you would do is run the inlet pipe thru the inner guard, use a plastic compression joint from a new car to absorb the engine rocking movement....

Alot of the ROTARY boys do this kinda thing....

Just a thought.....

im amazzed at the possitive feedback on my cold air induction kit.
maybe ill start the new one sooner than later while the plan and way to do it is still fresh in me head.I didnt think anyone would be interested in it..as no one has done it b4??
very werid as most minis running a weeber would be sucking in hot crapy air from the back of the engine and i was allways told that engines run better when the get cool air??or am i wrong???
when i start the next one ill do a step buy step guide with photos of what i did and how to do it for all you guys and girls out there who might be willing to try it allso.

We're all interested in the bling 8)

Yes cool air is good, but theory is that is messes with SU's...shouldn't affect webbers, but it really hasn't been proven to do much for a mini, so most people think it's pure wank factor..

Do a search for cold air intake, there is a pretty large thread that also has a few pics in it, most of the webber ones are sealed units, and they have to be to resemble any form of power gains...

I'm interested in your progress...

had planed to do this from the beggining, that is putting the air filter under the front guard
as you said this is the best place for
the air filter to be but as im running 13x6 and im also running shocks under there too
there isent much room under there and were it is now its getting air threw the front
grill and later on ill move it closer to the grill and move my two horn as ill need
room for a proper air pod of some type. another resason for keeping it here is im trying to get a small bmc filter pod or something that looks good as when doing this project i was after a way to get better air to the weeber plus inhance the engine bay too.
I think ive achived both of the things i wanted to do???

will look at this idear again and see what i can do.

i got the idear from my best mate.
I was with him one day at stylin car audio were he was getting his stereo done mainly fiberglass work and stuff.

they used the same method to get the sub box shape they wanted they got two rings to fit two 12 inch subs monted them on angles to a board and streched material over the top and then just resined over the whole thing.
the resin just makes it go so hard you can do anything to it and its strong.i diddnt even have to use fiber glass as it was strong enough with out it.then all i did was seal it with paint inide.
the next one will be real carbon fiber as i want it to look as good as i can get it so cost for the next one will blow out in a big way
but it will be worth it.I cant take the full credit for this as i did get the basic idear from link automotive but
they seem happy that ive done it and like the way it turned out.

Possibly and out there and Odd question.....

BUT if you made the "Box" blank out of say, chicken wire, or other flexible mesh, and you layed resin AND Matting over it, how much pressure would it reasonably stand ?

I'm thinking of a more "easily fit" and available plenum for Turbo minis ... the carbs are available new, but plenums are few and far between .....

Then again, maybe alloy would be the better choice....

Hmmmmm sure looks purty though...

Well the most simple solution to this cold air thing would just be to get a bonnet scoop right??

Maybe, except for the various state regulations about bonnet scoops.
But not everyone likes bonnet scoops either

i used a ram flow air filter to get my shape as it was the filter i had on the weeber b4.
i only used the mesh part so i could get the shape i required as i dont have a box section cut into my firewall and this is the only filter i could fit.
using the mesh from the kit plus the backing late in the kit also ment i new it would fit and fit well but threres no reason why you cant make it out off mesh but you still have to make a backing plate to bolt onto the weeber.
if you make it in one piece like link automotive item witch i might add is made out off alloy and looks the ducks nuts too the one thing i diddnt like is that it all bolts on and is hard to remove were mines only held onto the backing plate with 3 screws as if i made it one piece i would have to put long screws all the way threw to the back witch ment it would be harder to remove and do up tight as i cant get a screwdriver back there.

K&N used to do a kit to fit to a 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 SU in a Mini a bit like yours. A box bolted on top the carb and tube went down the side of the engine above the clutch housing with a K&N cone down near the grille. A guy I know from another list is running one on his Mini. He says it was a bugger to set up on the dyno!!!

Unfortunately they don't make at kit anymore. :(

The trick would be to incorporate a cold air box from a new car, and hide it up behind your headlight. That way you can use a flat panel K&N filter in the box... and come race day, just pop out the headlight, open a cover on the front side of the box and have uninterrupted cold air fed right into it!!

Well... thats what I would do
