Cheers for all the replies guys. Was going to try fit them on Friday but my Dad needed a hand so the Mini got no love. Might have a go one afternoon this week if the weathers good.
Had a quick read through the service manual on removing the rockers and replacing. Basically the manual says
1 ) Drain coolant.
2 ) Loosen ALL head bolts/nuts in the correct order
3 ) Completely undo the 8 nuts/bolts holding down the rocker gear
4 ) Remove rocker gear
5 ) Replace rocker gear with shiny new stuff
6 ) Do up head bolts/nuts in correct order to correct torque
7 ) Check rocker clearances
8 ) Refill coolant
9 ) Drive away into the sunset
Does this sound about right?
Also, the rocker cover I have is just one of the standard pressed ones I got chromed up awhile ago. Any chance this is going to clear?
Cheers again,
Keels.
Nope the standard one you have definitely wont fit. It doesen't allow for the bigger rockers.. as meantioned above
You shouldn't have to drain the coolant if you dont want to. I guess it says to do that because it wants you to undo all head bolts, but, you dont have to touch the front head bolts, leave them in place, if your gentle, you can get away with leaving it in no drama's. This is how Dr mini and others told me how to do mine, when I did it, and no worries. Good as gold. So long as the engine is dead cold when you do it, then your fine.
Once you've done it all back up again, loosen the front head bolts off half a turn and re torque them. Good habbit to get into.
