once the belt is used they will loosen a bit, otherwise put it in the sun for 20mins.
just a question im not up with superchargers, but are you feeding the fuel into the carb at the front of the engine or does it go into the supercharger?

the carb still works like a carb - pull air through it, and fuel will follow. Yes, the fuel goes through the blower

are you going to put it on GR's engine dyno?

yeah, I'm very curious to see what sort of ignition it ends up with - almost curious to the point of coming up to watch/assist/fiddle

I do owe GR a packet of biscuits

The kit appears to come with a map for turbo and a map for supercharged
I havnt plugged my laptop in yet.
Looks like a job for one night this week.

Finally found time to do some more work on the engine.
Fitted a Suzuki alternator.
Image
The old one is about the same weight but much larger

Then fitted the starter motor, oil filter, dip stick and supercharger

Have to clean the carby tommorrow and fit

Almost ready to start.

Three random questions:

1. What year supercharger is that?
2. Who determined the pulley ratio the blower runs at?
3. Is the slot in the alternator mount the only form of belt tensioner?

:D

Supercharger is an M45 from a Bini, not sure of year but probably 5 or 6 years old?
The kit is from VMAXSCART and he supplied the pulley
And I havnt finished fitting the alternator , it still needs a bracket to fit for tensioning the belt, and I also need to buy a belt

the blower runs on a second belt doesn't it?

IE a standard fan belt for the water pump and alternator, and another belt for the blower

edit: to answer my question, yes, two belts - as per this photo:

now need to find a better way of fitting the tensioner bracket

my engine plate is from an 1100, so has a lot more metal down near the gearbox case. I drilled a new hole and used a longer (honda) tensioner bracket. In the same vein, you could make another plate to mount under the front cover bolts and move the tensioner bracket to where you want it

Purchased a fan belt for the new Alternator but too short so back to Supercheap to try again. Finally worked out how to reassemble the carby after dismantling and cleaning,
I mounted it onto the engine but too cold and wet to continue tonight, :(
Next is to play with the Magajolt kit.

My reason for the questions:
Early Eaton M45s had slightly less boost at higher RPM, which for some reason makes them more torquey than the later higher power units.

The pulley ratio looks interesting, almost like its 2:1. A bini runs something closer to 4:1, so does that mean the kit is designed to the blower doesnt kick in till around 4-5000 rpm?

Belt tensioner on a bini is loading the belt with around 150kgs force continually, and even then I've heard some people say they've had the thing slip.
The kit tensioner isn't clear in the photos, but It looks a bit under engineered. Can I suggest you look into the belt tensioner that the classic minis with serpentine belts had?

(no experience on what I'm saying here with regards to blowers on classic minis, only replacing the blower in my bini with the later type and the associated issues in doing so).

Hi Harley,

Kit instructions for the belt tension are:
Supercharger belt tension is correct when there is sufficient tension on it that it can just be rotated by hand pressure

Supposed to generate about 10 -12 psi but I have heard of higher boost from other Ausmini people.
