I am in the process of revisiting the possibility of placing an alternator at the front of the Starlet motor. Now I have sourced a much smaller alternator but obviously I want to know if it will work. The ones I have looked at are all NipponDenso (same as Starlet original item), with the three prong plug with S, IG, L. My questions are:
how do you know what power output they have?
Should the pulley diameter be the same?
Does it matter particularly what car they came off?

I tink you take it too an auto sparky and they'll test it. You prolly need to take your crank pully too.

when you buy alternators the should come with the what amperage and volts they put out, but another way is to check by a multi-meter..

Should the pulley diameter be the same?
it will be roughly the same..

Does it matter particularly what car they came off?
it probably be best to buy lucas or bosch and yes id think you'd need to buy one off a old mini or any rover mini..

i hope that is a little more helpful..
:)
