Hi Guys,

So the time has come for me to start getting ready to put the diahatsu siron into Gumby.

I know there is the thread above about good engineers and all, but was hoping for an experience realated recommendation?

Basically all I want to do, is drop the siron and the subframe into gumby. No mods from when it was engineered and mod plated for Mad lockie (my other smashed van)

It's just a swap to another van basically. So I just need someone to approve the swap over in other words.

Other question is does the engineering have to come out and look at the car, engine and subframe first? Or can I just go ahead, and start bolting it all in, and should be ok? I can show him the certification papers, but will he need to come and visit the car before I start?

I don't want to go to all the effort and find it wont make approval. But as nothing is changing from the original certified modification, you should think it would be ok, but at the end of the day it's up to the engineer.

Rego runs out soon, so will be swapping it over then.

Any recommendations on what to do first, and engineers would be highly valuable. I prefer Gold Coast engineers as that is where the car is, but will take Brisbane fella's if I have to..

Cheers Lockie.

if you're swapping from the old could you not just use the same guy who originally did it, or did you buy it from someone or move from where you made it?

Engineering was done in Sydney mate.

I'll be able to go and see the original mod plate guy here in QLD however. (if he still exists) but not engineer.

well given there's no body mod to speak of, correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't you just have to get him to run through it? ie, the subframe has already been engineered and there's no need for any change to the cars body, should be just like a straight swap.. then again, nothing's ever straight foward or easy anymore. i'd say just give the guy a call and find out.

thereticaly yes.

Who are you calling "him" or the "guy" :? :? :?

It still has to be re engineered for the different car. QLD transport rules. It is open to another engineer's discretion if he will approve the modification like the first engineer. Each will have their own opinion on how much should be done etc. Ie a 10inch bar used, instead of a 8 inch bar used.

I'm just after people's experience with Engineers in my area and what they think will be the best person to go to, and what to do.

The guy that did the mod plate for QLD IS the engineer who says its legit and gives you the plate an a certificate, so go see him again.

Cheers thanks Matt. :)

I just wasan't sure he was an engineer as such. More the guy that just says that the engineer who approved it in NSW, is legit, and makes sure the car has the correct paper work etc?

on the paper work, His business name is "Victory Tyres and Mechanical" so that just made me wonder that's all?

Do you still rekon he can do it?

i'd definately say there's no harm in asking, all the best with it and hope it's as simple as that.

It doesn't matter if the guy works for a tyre shop or a racecar fabrication shop. So long as he is approved by transport/main roads, whatever they feel like calling themselves now, for the codes that you require.

He will inspect the car and decide wether it ticks all the boxes and if he is happy, he will put a blue plate on the car, listing the relevant modification codes and he will give you a certificate as well which is a copy of what he will send to transport.

Once you have the plate on the car and the piece of paper then your all good to go. Depending on what he has to do to inspect the car he could charge you $100 or he could ask for your arm and your leg. As far as i'm aware there is no price set by transport.

Cheers, thanks for that matt. I'll be giving him a ring then, and see what he has to say before I do the swap over, just incase he wants to see the thing before it goes in the car
