Has anyone got a rough idea of what a Swift GTI conversion will cost me into a mini. I own a 69 cooper however are looking at doing another project but this time want something extremely quick..
Im thinking T4 turbo with this engine

Start looking for a donor car/cars, from what I've seen a GTI will sell for $500-$5000 so decide what you want and price it up. If you want a turbo look at a GTI that already runs one that way you already have all the parts needed they just have to be moved around to fit in the mini.
After sub frame mods, drive shafts, engineering approvals etc etc you could be looking between 8'ish up to 15'ish grand.
Also what work needs to be done to the mini panel and paint wise as well as suspension, brakes, interior, wheels.......
Get an idea in you head about what you want your project to look like have and do. then get a big bit of paper and make a list of all the pieces and what each one will honestly cost, maybe even get some quotes.

Be prepared to do a lot of the work yourself. There aren't many panel shops that are interested in the work - there is plenty of insurance jobs on at the moment. Also the so called 'performance shops' are more interested in quick high paying jobs like putting an exhaust on a R33/34 or a chip in a VE/BG, they're not interested in doing full fabrication work on a 30 year old car.

And most importantly like everyone on here says, do a budget then double it and that is what it will cost!!

EDIT: I recommend buying someone else's unfinished project, they've already spent a bucket load of cash on it and are normally selling it for much less than what they've spent already. Still be prepared to stick even more cash into it.

Do you really own a Cooper? Or a Deluxe or otherwise?

If you own a Cooper, you will get reamed on here for even suggesting a transplant in it! Or do you already own a Cooper and want a new project from scratch?

Please let it be the latter!

Hey mate im currently doing my 64 model roundnose mini up. (look at my post on the conversion) Fully finished with a yr rego cost me 13,000 (isn't finished yet but thats everything done and payed for). With a roudnose you will really struggle to turbo it as they are alot smaller then a clubman engine bay (6" ish). Best idea is to yes get a already turbo GTi. Look on www.redlinegti.com. The is a turbo GTi on there thats smashed up for $2000.

If your wanting someone to do the conversion i have a guy Jason - GTitec at gosford who is doing mine, hit him up to do the conversion. Mine will be finished and on the road in 10 weeks so i would be more then happy to help with photos and info if you want to do it yourself. Goodluck

Hi Guys...
NO Im NOT cutting up my cooper.
I would like a clubman to start a new project, so I have best of both worlds.
I will keep cooper as the classic, and have the clubman as race car.
If anyone knows of any that is cheap Iw ould be more than happy to buy.
