I'm very keen to get back there next year. I did a sprint on the short track 6 or 7 years ago, but just haven't had the right combination of circumstances to go again. I'm thinking of skipping a few motorkhana rounds next year to go there instead...

Sean, I think he's saying he needs some semi slicks :D

yeah, I need semis. :D

I typed the previous post after several beers, so I apologise for the way it reads!

The fastest evo did a 1:36.xx but was not a pure race car, but quite far from stock street car with quite a lot of engine & suspension work done, stripped interior & roll cage. {race spec compared to the mini}

The drivers are experienced track day guys, but not really professional racers.

It was also 30+ degrees up there on the weekend, which no doubt reduced the hps and driver concentration somewhat. Most also wanted to drive home.

Bottom line it was fun and can't wait for the next one. It would be great to have at least one more 4efte mini up there too.

Thanks to vyets for the photo.

Brilliant work James, and respectable times.

What's next for the Bumblebee?

Haha, yeah the bumblebee will probably be pretty quiet over christmas [too much going on as always] but I'm definitely keen to hit the track again asap!

As said, I need some tires (maybe a 2nd set of wheels too with the exchange rate, just need to decide on the best size), but probably more important is driver practice [ ] so I'm not too keen to change too much on the car before I get a bit more consistent.

I need to play around with the I/C pipe work but nothing major, just new clamps and maybe changing one of the silicone hoses to solid.
Otherwise, I'm happy with how the mini went and I'm just going to drive it as much as I can! [preferably on the track if I can find the time- where ever that keeps hiding lately  ]

Everyone's fastest times of the day:

I'm #26 - Quick min (down the bottom)

James,

Try and get a hold of the Formula Ford guys as they run 13" wheels with semi-slicks (Avon ACB-10's). They usually junk the tyres after a couple of races and 9 times out of 10 would be ideal for mini owners doing the odd track days.

Normally, you can pick them up for next to nothing. All you need then is just another set of wheels.

Cheers,
Tricky

Thanks tricky. Thats a great idea.
It will make it so much cheaper, which is good because I just bought a house a few months ago. Any idea what size tyres they run?

Now, anyone know of any light 13" wheels floating around? - Although looking at some of the UK websites, new wheels are pretty cheap at the moment!
8)

hmmm...... 13" mambas.... or super trax??? 8)

I think they run 6.5 inches front and 7.5 inches rear.

Go the Mamba's I reckon....

Cheers,
Tricky

we used to run formula ford avons on the sports sedan but couldnt get them to fit on the back so be careful as they are quite a thick sidewalled tyre!

anyway well done mate, now u wont be able to stop

The man speaks the truth!

After too long since the last trip to Winton, due to a hectic interstate work travel schedule, I made a fairly last minute decision to take the day off work and head up to Winton for a Test and Tune day on Friday.

I talked a mate with a Nissan 180SX into getting up @ 6am to make the trip with me and dragged his younger cousins along as a pit crew and cheif Videographers. (Unfortunately it seems this backfired, as I found out the boys names were actually Shakey McShakealot and his brother Trembles! )

This was only my second trip to the track and it was my mate, Mark's 1st, and as we were soon to discover, Test and Tune days are frequented by all sorts of cars, mainly of the "race" variety!
There is nothing quite as unnerving as a Muscle Car Masters Ford Mustang driven by John Bowe getting very big in the rear vision mirror before blasting past, all the while I have my foot through the floor trying to go faster!

Anyway, at the end of the day I got a new PB - 1:50.5! Yay!
Almost 4 seconds better than last time and faster than the Daewoo Lanos Championship lap record!

And I'm getting much more consistent on the street tires, keeping them from totally going off for 4 or 5 hot (ish) laps. (although V8s in the mirror tend to encourage quick learning. ) I put this down to slowly working out better lines.

The day wasn't completely without incident. I found out my fuel gauge only goes down to 1/4 tank then stops, so of course I ran out of fuel on the track.
And as I was spluttering across the infield trying to make it back to the pits, I managed to find the only mud patch in the paddock and promptly became bogged... right in the middle of the Winton infield!  So I had to get towed out.....

More petrol fixed the problem it turns out!

Anyway, good times and can't wait for the next one.

When I shuffle through the footage and find some that isn't nauseating, I'll post it up.

Ha, ha. Glad you had a good time. It's a great track.

One time I was there a rotary powered sprite ran off onto in infield and set fire to it wit it's hot exhaust.

Yeah, I was probably pretty lucky I had only done one full lap before I stopped so the exhaust (read: cat converter) wasn't too hot.
There was still some steam (1st thoughts were smoke  ) when the car bellied into the mud. I kept a close eye on it after then, especially as it had picked up some grass from the excursion!

I get an error "This video has either been removed from Facebook or is not visible due to privacy settings" on all of those links. Since you probably haven't removed the vids, I'd say they are for facebookers that can view your private profile.
