Is it possible to convert the rear end of a Mini to run disc brakes..? What are the implications and modifications? I am a 1/4 of the way through the Honda conversion thread.

Does anyone know if disc brakes from a Daihatsu Applause would fit under 12x5 wheels..?

Have a think.. how much braking do your rears do now.... ?

add MORE braking to the front....

How much Braking do you Now do at the back ?

there is no real point just get sum super fin alloy drums. rear discs are just for ricers or if u want extra bling bling. miglia racers use super fins in the uk so i don't think your gunna need any better brakes. but if u work out a cheap disc conversion we would like to hear about it.

Only reason I can see for disc brakes on the rear would be for awesome handbrakies and car control in motorkhanas and the like..plus the bling...i want some ..

Mmmm...rear disks with a fly off handbrake..do a few on the drums and your back under the car adjusting the damn things..

Yes it is..last time i looked KAD made a set that also worked with their lightweight alloy trailing arm..about $1500 if memory serves me right..

$1500..!!! Gees. What about the possibility of converting disc brakes from an existing car..? I have picked up a Jap spec Daihatsu with 1.3L engine and four wheel disc brakes. The brakes are 9.4" from memory (about same size as camira ones I think - unfortunately havent measured them so am going off numbers from someone else) and so the fronts would fit easy, but I have never investigated the rears.

Someone also said that there is a system in UK apparently where they have 4 seperate hand brakes, one for each wheel for real tight turning motorkhana style... would that be a load of crap or a possibility..?

It is probably possible with enough time and effort, but there are alot of issues to overcome, will never be a simple sraight fit for numerous reasons..

Yes there are car's with brakes for each corner..i think they're called fiddle brakes? can't remember..but yes they're used..but not legal on a road car..

sorry, but try going from 4-wheel drums to 4-wheel discs

One reason many cars still have rear drums is to get a decent handbrake. Most cars with rear discs now use a pair of shoes inside it for the handbrake.
Disc pads themselves make a crap handbrake, you just cannot get enough real leverage.
Examples- Alfas, Jaguars, Fiats, EA etc Falcon..

at this stage I am going for ricer bling effect. Its basically a project that may never see the track so for this time, if it looks good and goes good, then I am happy.

I guess my major question centres around the rear subframe. Does it need to be modified to accept rear discs? And if it does, what level of engineering would that then need?

i asked the guys at minispares.com and they said to have a look around 1800-1900 :dunno
