Thats what the name of the mob that does them is. I remember reading the blog ages ago but couldnt find it again.
Could a north south bike engine with a shaft drive to a rear spool to the rear.
(And i say spool a lot cos theyre simple, light and encourage a brave driver.

Yeah that did cross my mind but the problem of having all the weight on one side of the car was my issue. I guess if you tilt the engine back over the top of the diff that would center the weight.
So long as the engine can run at full knock on an angle like that + cornering will enhance the the oil level/surge issue.

Has got me thinking again though :) .

Who says the shafts have to be exactely in the center? ;)

This will be in a mini.
The shafts need to be in the center because they must run under the car and the only place for the is the exhaust tunnel which is in the center :wink: .

Thinking on from that idea if the diff on the engine is welded/locked it will then deliver 50% to each end. Then if we have a LSD at each end this will give all round best grip correct?

Well, I guess with such a project (moving or enlarging) the exhaust tunel will be the least of your problems :D

Out of a feeling, I'd leave the diff as is or even fit a third LSD there, to accomodate for different levels of traction on front & rear. Wasn't that the problem of the Quadra Moke? Not having a center diff?

@Mick:
Yes, I thought that it's the same :)

[edit] The Ford RS200 was a mid-engined, trans-axle AWD car :lol:

Image

1. gearbox 2. engine 3. front diff 4. gearbox input shaft

I think the newest Nissan GT-R has a similar AWD trans-axle setup, but with a front engine.

Its getting to the point where there is far too much custom stuff for it to road legal. And it isnt road legal make a spaceframe like an ariel atom. Theres a point where youve got to move away from minis to get the result you want.
