We have run into a problem.

The spin on oil filter adaptor taken from a standard 998cc block appears to be too small to cover the corresponding opening on my 1275 block. The studs are the correct dimensions and the adaptor will bolt up fine, but there is a gap between the adaptor and block along the top edge that fails to seal the oil.

Is there a different sized spin on oil fiter adaptor needed for 1275 block? Is there a size reducing adaptor plate that can be used between the spin-on and the block to cover the gap?

Anyone know a solution or a price and supplier.

Many thanks
Dat

I've got a feeling that you take the adapter plate off and bolt the spin on mount straight up. I'm pretty sure I came across the same issue, went to mini spares place looking for the same thing as you, and that was what I was told.

Maybe ring your local mini spares place/mechanic and ask him.

There is a different gasket on spin-ons. That is all. I had to make one on the weekend when I swapped blocks.
I have the 998 spin-on on an 1100S block. Bolts straight onto either my 1100S manual or 1300 auto (now manual) block.

Thanks guys - i'm not with the car but I'm being told that there is a physical gap in the block that the spin on is not covering when you offer it up in place.

You saying just a wider gasket will do it????

I took the spin on fitting straight off my 1098 block and put it onto the 1100S 1275.

Only problem was clearance for the dizzy when we went to adjust the static advance. We ended up having to turn the dizzy cam over 180* and fit the dizzy upside down. Now the breather holes are facing up and looking to fill with water when it rains.

Sorting out this quirk is on my to-do list.

Mounting face on the block (any of 'em) is taller than the adapter, but that doesn't matter.
The spin-on gasket is actually narrower than the old cartridge mount one, which will NOT seal it.
On Good Friday I didn't have the right one ,so I just cut one out of gasket material to shape of the mounting, punched the holes in it and whacked it on. Easy.

I know this may sound stupid but are they trying to put it on the fuel pump studs rather than the oil filter? then there would be a gap for sure, but i dont know that the stud dimensions are the same  .

No nothing quite that silly.

Well I travelled down and saw the engine for myself last night - mistery solvered.

The 1275 block had for some reason a 3mm adaptor plate the shape and size of the old oil filter canister mount fitted over the hole in the block. It was the large opening in this plate that was being reported to me over the phone as the size of the hole in the block. One cold chisel and a BFH later and problem gone.

Thanks guys

Oh by the way - anyone want an old canister oil filter mounting plate? - perfic nic, unwanted leftover bit
