I'm assuming it's a small bore block? Were you using a copper gasket? the new ones are NFG...

Go the ACL Gasket, Part #CP250MT. Available from Repco etc.

While the head is off you can do a number of things, port the head, fit double valve springs, bigger inlet valves etc..

Find out what type of head you have too.

If it`s not valve bouncing the don`t fit double valve springs,,,the extra load only slows the things down

double valve springs are fitted to a higher reving engine to help stop valve bounce or valve "float",,,that`s all,,,by fitting double valve springs to an "otherwise" STD engine will only slow the engine down

simple as that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe fit slightly larger inlet valves & open the holes up to suit,,,& if you want to spend some more money & fit unleaded valve seats then do so too, good for longetivity

Im am under the impression I can replace the head with one that will give me a performance boost ?

Is this correct ? if so, what could I expect to get for say $500 just on the head itself ?

If you are running a 998 or 1098 you can put a 925 or 940 head...
940 head is a bit more work on the Block..(Valvue clearance)
if you can find the 925 head you are a lucky man..I'm still looking

I do that all the Time 8)

940 is your best bet..but you will need to pocket the block..so the Valvue's don't hit the block.

202 heads can be opened up better than a 295 by GR in Sydney
Regardings to heads as per factory http://drcwww.kub.nl/~bogaard/heads.htm

UPDATE:

Ok, i have to bite the bullet and get a full engine + gearbox reco.

I am after the name + phone numbers of all good mini specialists in Sydney + Newcastle who can do what I am after.

I will remove engine myself + install myself. I am only after reconditioning of engine, and maybe some performance parts.

Any help will be appreciated!!

Thanx people!!

Thankyou for that, shall give them all a ring 2moro.

Is anyone able to tell me if I will get change out of $2000 for a rebuild of an 1100 engine + gearbox ? Or should I make my budget a tad bigger ?
