Damn I suck. I didn't even notice when I did the first side... must have been dumb luck. I think I should be able to cut the nut (which is now truly ****ed) with my dremel. Oh the humanity.

probably the one on the first side was normal other side is reverse to do with wheel rotation (im guessing here)... my 1960 dodge dart pioneer had bolt on wheels (no studs) LH thread on one side RH on the other

I think I'm the problem!!!

I haven't taken Charlotte for a burn in ages... she's getting bored sitting out there in the garage.

I'll let you know how I do cutting this nut off.

yeah mate and i was 20 when i bought that baby.. she was all in bitz packed in icecream containwers and boxes except the shell.. no instructions and no manual took ages to get the sucker together especially as it turned out to be a very rare canadian version which was a different piston and stroke size.. had to get some chev 383 rings and grind a smidgen off each rings end.. a smidgen is a very technical measurement LOL
whent everywhere in that beast.. got a shitty pick of me at the top of some range (name forgotten) which is the steepest climb in the southern hemisphere.. had to do 3 point turns on the hairpins on the road which is gravel..
ps im the dark haired driver blob (i had hair back then)

Okay

So this is a tough way to learn about the only LH threaded nut on the bloody car.

The nut is still in place... with lots of nice metal surrounding it making it plenty hard to get out. I've cut away a fair bit of it but it still won't budge. I'm also trying very hard not to stuff the thread on the stub shaft. Although I'm not certain it is still ok. Is this going to need a new swing arm if the thread on the stub shaft is beyond repair?

Second question.... does anybody have these LH threaded nuts spare??? I'd love for somebody to send me one.

Ok I need some advice.

I've cut the nut off and the thread is in pretty bad shape. A tap would probably fix it up but where would I get a reverse threaded tap of the appropriate type?

Can you remove the stub shaft from the swing arm or do I have to replace the whole bloody lot?

For an external thread you need a Stock and Die, a Tap cuts or cleans out internal threads....5c

Stub shaft is pressed in. Easier to find another swing arm...

Most probably cheaper also. LH dies and taps cost heaps. I had to buy some to make adjustable lower control arms years ago and it sure hurt the pocket.

Is there anything I should know before attempting to do the swing arm swap?

Has any of the local blokes got a LHS swing arm to part with? I could take one off the clubby shell but its got no front subframe and is pressed right against my fence... hence it will be a royal PITA.
