what kind of water pump belt are you using on the 4EFTE engines when remove the alternator? and how do you strech the belt? (tensioning???)

For the water pump I can't remember the belt size off the top of my head, but most of us have stretched a belt over the crank and water pump pulleys so its pretty tight without any extra tensioner. It's not easy, but you just have to turn the engine over and roll the belt on at the same time.

Edit: The separate alternator belt, of course needs a tensioner (sometimes the alternator gives enough adjustment.)

This is about as good as I've got:

I'll have a look through my photos for a better one.

What specifically do you want to see?

*EDIT: A couple more- (not sure if these will help or not.)

(like my belt tensioner in the last pic? )

I someone knows the belt size for having no water pump belt tensioner I'd really appreciate that.

I've picked up some idler pulleys and tensioners from a local wrecker and was intending to fabricate a tensioner for the water pump pulley but there's not alot of room back down there and would need to weld the bracket for the tensioner onto my equaliser shaft mount/bracket. I am still planning on doing this but it might be just easier to stretch a correct fitting belt over it.

Matt Power's website is good and somewhere has the water pump belt size.
Its generally a really good reference guide for anyone doing the 4efte conversion.

The belt he used was 4PK0715 - a 715mm belt.

James (and others) - Do you find there are any issues with having the belt slightly loose - so it's big enough to get it over the pulley? Like any squealing?

The only Issue I have with belts squealing is when I go through a puddle and water splashes onto the crank pulley.

Over time the belt might start to squeal as it wears. No sign of that on mine yet though.
The belt is still pretty tight once its on.... Its quite hard to install!
